...how far can you reliably shoot out to from a prone position. Reliably meaning you can consistently hit into a 8 inch wide pie plate/target.
      Reading can be hard.

I'm a hunter so my standard is an ethical quick clean kill, not wounded. I also use ZEISS Rapid Z or Leupold B&C drop reticle. Deer don't stand still long so no messing with dials or knobs. Assuming "good" but not perfect conditions....non Magnum rifle

          Prone with bipod/backpack -350/400 yards
          Off shooting sticks - 250
          Sitting or kneeling - 150
          Offhand - 100

I haven't gotten to do a lot of long-range shooting. We go out to Oroville maybe once a year or so. Max distance is about 550 yards. I can reliably hit that. Pretty much every shot once I have it dialed in. This is scoped with a .308 Winchester Model 70. At 100 yards, if I print over 1", that is a failure.

I have never gotten the opportunity to shoot farther.

Facts are stubborn things; and whatever may be our wishes, our inclinations, or the dictates of our passions, they cannot alter the state of facts and evidence.

At HaH a few weeks ago we got to shoot a 645yd target with the AR's, 4.1 mil up and hold right edge of the target.

I can hit 600 with my savage 111 in .300 win mag and a nikon buckmaster 3x9.. I would love to shoot longer but don't have the equipment. My .300 is pretty light and sure puts a hurting on the shoulder after 20 rounds. What would I be looking to spend for a budget setup to start shooting farther

I lack visible abs. 100 yards on irons with these 50 year old eyes. 300 yards with inexpensive glass on my Howa Bolt action. I can't afford expensive glass, so I can't tell you what I would do beyond 300 yards.

I hit 645yards with 77gr 5.56 in the AR, with Burris 1-8 glass, on the clock. The closer 400 and in targets I actually dialed back to zero and used the BDC. With my 300WSM I have hit out to 1500yards, but thats way more effort and I have not even attempted it in over a year.

I can consistently hit targets out to 600 yards with my ironsites AR15A2 National Match rifle. I think the X-ring is 6" and 12" 10-ring on a MR1 target.

Not to interfere in OP's thread, but I think the complete question would be, "and please list your setup" (ex: gun, caliber, scope, etc...etc). I think it's only fair, because someone shooting a precision .22LR can't reach a distance that a 300 Mag can. Precision & distance depend on your set up as well, as the SKILLS... (JMHO)..
