    Sorry about that one.
When I read Roosters post it appears he is near NorCal until I saw he listed his elevation at 5200 feet.
I am in Santa Rosa at almost sea level.
If anyone reading this thread wants to shoot a really small group or two my rifles are generally available on Sunday near two rock California.
I guarantee your wife and children 12 years of age or older can shoot sub 3/8 inch 5 shot groups.

This 629 yard shot in the wind was a hail Mary.

I am really only good to 600 yards with no wind.

I don't take Hail Mary shots on game, seen to many injured animals on a hunt to feel it is unethical and brings us hunters a bad reputation.

My longest shot on a ground squirrel is 329 yards. On big game I feel comfortable hitting out to about 200 yards.

Unfortunately, due to a lack of areas near me to shoot long range, I'm not sure. I don't really have anywhere to practice nearby. So when deer hunting, I won't attempt a shot farther than 250 yards. I just don't trust my skills enough to take an ethical shot past that range.

Once I put 3 rounds onto the broadside of a barn from 50 ft away with my old BB Gun.

I have never shot past 100 yards. It is all I could do to see, much less hit, the targets. Even with optics, I cannot even see the .223 hole in the target.

That is why people usually make the black larger than .22 inches across.

Just for fun and to make fun of some of the people I hunt with.

Well ****, it was 4 in the morning, 28 degrees outside in a blinding tempest of a storm. I done seen me a 55 point typical quartering away at a full run at 500 yards. So's I takes my aim, with open sights, and leveled my Winnington
.17-600 Pterodactyl loaded with 300 grains of Tight-Eye powder and I done hit him in the head, and wouldn't ya know it, hit him just above the eye. He done fell out right thare. Yep, that's what I did.

                  What? No comprende senor.

Even if the black circle was 1 foot diameter, when you shoot a .22 hole through it at 100 years, I cannot see it. The size of the black makes absolutely no difference.

Tex, either see an Optometrist or get a better scope with more magnification. Maybe both.

People ought to pay attention to where the first shot hits. I have been spending this month sighting in hunting rifles at CMP Talladega and I am very surprised just how far away from the center of the target my first shots have been landing at 300 yards.

I thought I had good 100 yard zeros, about 2" high, dead center for windage. But, first shots at 300 yards are generally hitting anywhere but the X ring, or ten ring. None have been out of the black but I can recall some eight ring shots. Once I adjust for windage and elevation, depending on the rifle, I am getting constant 2 MOA groups, all in the ten or X ring. But, in the real world, you don't get sighters hunting or in combat. First shot counts.

And I think many shooters ignore this and dismiss the first shots that don't hit dead center. Shooters are just paying attention to the group they get after the barrel is fouled and they correct for windage and elevation.

After you did all of your adjustments at 300 yards how and were was the gun now shooting at 100 yards?

Your cold bore shot is always going to land in a different spot than successive shots. And it will always be consistent (wind notwithstanding).

The CMP range where I shot has 200 through 600 yard targets. It does not have a 100 yard target and while I am also curious about the new POI, I have not altered my sight settings from my 300 yard "zero" nor have I verified POI at 100 yards.

Tumbling my bullets in HBN makes the cold bore shot have the same POI as the rest of the group. And tighter groups overall (except with Berger bullets, the groups are already really tight). It really works!
