Come shoot highpower. We are all jerks to some degree but guys will give you the shirts off their backs. This year alone I saw the following:

        1. The winner of State Longrange shared his load without any qualms or a moment's pause. Shared it publicly in an article online.
        2. The captain of our local informal highpower club pulled the barrel off his competition rifle and shot his backup so that another member could use his action at Nationals.
        3. Every month at least two Master classified shooters don't shoot and instead coach whoever wants help at our monthly practice. No "cost" other than the range fee. Guys with national trophies coaching for free instead of practicing for upcoming matches because "it's only fun to beat people at their best."

We give each other sh*t, we have extremely high expectations of ourselves and each other, but there is no sport I've been a part of where your competition is so willing to help you out.

Wish I could shoot half as good as some of you, actually most of you who claim to shoot so well. I guess a qualifier should have been made by the OP. Should have asked shooters if they were bench shooting, vice shooting, or shooting in the field (hunting). Even shooting from my led sled i'm barely hitting a 8" target at 350'ish yards, under good conditions. In the field, under hunting conditions with wind, elevation, uneven surfaces etc... it's more like 200-250 yards max. I use custom hand loads precisely loaded for my rifle and i still have problems past 250 yards and I'm no novice to rifle shooting, not by any stretch of the imagination.

While I've not shot at any of the long range facilities where crosswinds/thermals must not be a problem, I find it fascinating most here have no problems easily repeatedly hitting 8" plates/targets at ranges greater than 800 yards. I don't own a specialized target/bench rifle, but I do own a .308 rifle that has been "tuned" by a state recognized expert long range shooter, and now gunsmith, from NorCal. This rifle is used for hunting and I can easily get 1.5 MOA out of it without resorting to a sled. Maybe I'm just getting old, as i find it difficult to even keep the crosshairs from bouncing all over the place at magnifications greater than 6x -8x. Getting old sucks.

With a good rifle and rest combination you can reliably shoot 3/8 inch 5 shot groups at 100 yards. I see you are at 5200 feet but if you ever get down to sea level you can shoot one of my rifles and it will change your opinion.

Come shoot 3-gun. My rifle went down at the Western Regionals and a guy on my squad let me shoot his. I myself will loan almost anyone almost anything in my possession at a match.

What is the difference between shooting at 5200 feet and shooting at sea level? I know the air density is different, which affects bullet trajectory and the twist rate needed to stabilize a particular bullet.

But is it easier to shoot tighter groups at lower altitudes?

Lower altitudes don't really affect how tight groups are, but just affects the trajectory. I've seen my dope be a mil flatter at 1000 yards from going to sea level to 9000 DA.

I think what LynnJr meant was if Roostersgt was ever in town he can try some of Lynn's rifles.

My wife hit a 1000 yard bull size target 3 times in a row with an iron sighted mosin.

I havnt even hit the target with that rifle.
Just invested 2000 in a 6.5 creedmore rifle to beat her.

5 or 600yards, what ever was the farthest steel set up at Angeles range. Im sure I could easily shoot much further if I had some steel setup. Come Spring when the snow is gone I plan to test that out.

Like most other things practice and familiarity make perfection..

Since what I do happens between 100 and 200 yards that is what I shoot and do it well.
