Prone....I'm ok at a grand on a good day.
Here a couple of videos of myself and a fellow calgunner:
Bring hay for my horse....wine for my men....and mud for my turtle!
What do you hear ???...... Nothing but the rain. Well grab your gun and bring in the cat.

Shooting an 8" plate at 1000 in no wind after a sighter or two isn't that hard.
Shooting an 8" plate at range 117 in tricky wind is impossible, at least for me!!
A few facts. Milo is an NRA high power master, so with an AR with service rifle irons he shoot 8" groups at 600 yards in prone in wind probably 96% of the time day in day out.
If you want to get better you need to shoot high power. There is no other way because the discipline of the matches forces you to face the reality of your Ammo, rifle, and temperament.
If you become a master, and go distinguished, you are a shooter. If you don't, well....it's all conjecture.
If it ain't scored it didn't happen is how I see it.Last edited by bubbapug1; 11-03-2016, 6:33 PM.I love America for the rights and freedoms we used to have.Comment

You say that like you think there's something magical about a .50 when, in fact, every LR and XLR shooter knows that small bore centerfire cartridges have shot smaller groups than .50s have. .50 BMG is not the best precision cartridge out there specially for short distances like 500 yards. That alone makes me question your real knowledge and ability.NRA Certified Pistol, Rifle, Shotgun and Metallic Cartridge Reloading Instructor

It's fascinating to watch folks get better in their sport. There are those that become friendlier and kinder as they progress and eager to help others, and then there are the ones that become elitist and think they're the best thing since sliced bread and just tear people down.
God I hope I never become the latter.Comment

This is the gospel.Pretty much. Only real thing you need to worry about at the end of the day is wind. Long range is nothing but wind. Fundamentals disappear once you have them down. They become innate. You internalize them. Your rifle should be squared away by then. Your DOPE should be good. All you do is get your environmentals, plug them into your app, adjust your scope, and then just focus on reading wind.Never argue with a fool, onlookers may not be able to tell the difference. So said somebody but not Mark Twain

You know what makes me question your knowledge and ability?? That fact that you think i was talking about "precision" and "Smaller Groups" in regards to 50 cal. Where in my post that you quoted did i talk about those two things? Can you not read?? why are you making stuff up?? perhaps you should get some bifocals so you can read the knowledge i drop on this site. I was simply referring to the fact of how easy it would be to hit a 10 inch plate at 500 yards with a 50 cal and how the guy i was calling out, probably wouldn't even be able to do it. C'mon man. Don't try to read between the lines i post. you have a hard enough time as it is reading and comprehending WHAT i post. You say that like you think there's something magical about a .50 when, in fact, every LR and XLR shooter knows that small bore centerfire cartridges have shot smaller groups than .50s have. .50 BMG is not the best precision cartridge out there specially for short distances like 500 yards. I can't wait for this to reach page 5....
Perhaps it's time for The Great Calguns Shoot-Off.... I think I can make Range12 at SacValley (1K) available on a Saturday.
NRA Classified shooters will shoot for fun/run the match and witness the greatness of these soon-to-be legends.Comment

EVERYBODY
Tomorrow, November 5: 1,000-yard practice session at Sacramento Valley Shooting Center with the NCPPRC. Come on out and give it a try. Everybody is friendly and willing to help you out. Go to the NCPPRC website/forum, sign up and RSVP in the practice session forum.
The range office opens at 7:30. Make sure you get there early enough to avoid long lines to pay and sign the SVSC waiver before coming to the pits. And get a wrist band from the range office.
Safety Brief starts at 8:30 in the target pits.
Attendance at safety brief is mandatory if you want to shoot. If you are late and miss the safety brief you will not be able to practice.
Pay your Sac Valley range fee and sign the Sac Valley waiver at the public rifle range office. Range personnel will attach a wristband for all those who pay. If you do not have a wrist band you will not be allowed to practice.
Then meet in the target pits on the 1,000-yard range and sign the NCPPRC waiver and help set out targets and spotter boxes.
Non NCPPRC members pay an additional $10 at that time.
Then, on Sunday, there is a 1,000-yard competition. But Saturday is practice.Comment
