New VP9 failed bad at the range today.. trigger wouldn't reset.. was surprised given the HKs Ive dealt with in the past.

No, wasn't mine.. luckily he had another pistol..

    Curious about the Walther..

Got to try one at a CGN event - I have to say, I'd say it's about equal to the PPQ 50/50 to me.

My final verdict was if you already have one and are thinking of the other, I don't think it's worth getting both. You won't be missing out on too much without the other. Especially when you have to get extra mags, accessories, and possibly (non-interchangeable) upgrades for both afterwards unless you want the other one "just because" (then by all means buy away).

If you have neither but want one of the other, I personally think it'd come down to ergos + trigger and hence, is a purely subjective decision based upon your own individual self/hands. For me, the VP9 has better ergos except for the mag release (both the Walther M1 and M2 are better for me) and the way the sights sit on the VP9 (idk what it is about the sights, but something about them just distracted me and threw me off, which virtually never happens to me with any sights). I like the PPQ trigger more, but wish it had a shorter take up and that the trigger return spring was slightly softer (both like the VP9).

Beat me to it .. you can't give an opinion and say it's undeniable, when someone with different preferences would have a very different opinion.

I hate to be the "looks" guy but something about hk pistols just does not draw me in like others do. I am sure they are awesome or else 1100$ vp9s in the marketplace wouldnt be gone in 5 minutes. Alot of which im sure has to do with full SSE slots and 1 in 30. That said im new to the pistol scene compared to rifles.

Ill try to rent one somewhere, who knows maybe I'll just absolutely have to have one.

Might be hard to rent one .... See if a fellow calgunner in your area will let you shot theirs to get a feel for it.

Well, this is a surprise ... a nine page thread about which gun is better and half the people talk about their preferences and the other half just talk about why their opinion is the only valid one.

yea this whole thread is just lame.
buy whichever gun you like, everybody has different likes and opinions.

mods please close this thread as it's just taking up space

The VP9 was and still is hyped to the moon. HK firearms are loved by many, and their entry into modern striker fired service pistols has been very anxiously awaited. Is it the best gun ever. No for many, yes for some. Is it better than a PPQ, Glock, MP, XD etc? No for many, yes for some.

It's a fine pistol. I like them, but that doesn't mean you will. There's not much out there I don't like. With an HK you get an assurance of tight quality control, and extensive R&D testing. Important to some, not to others. Will some VP's have issues, absolutely, and you'll certainly read about it here.

Get it if it intrigues you. I bought 2. I think it slays the glock in many areas, yet I'm still shooting uspsa with a Glock 17. I think its better than the PPQ in fitment, ergonomics, perceived build quality and tolerances, and out of the box set up (sights). That's just my opinion, and I have a PPQ M1 also, which is also fantastic in its own right and slays the Glock in many areas. Yet I still choose to shoot G17 in uspsa.

Hyped, yes. Does it live up to the hype? For me, yes.

The HK P7 series, and P9 series, are on whole other level compared to the vp9, PPQ, Glock, MP, XD etc. though, but those days are over.

Great post. I actually love the tight tolerqnces with the vp9nqith the caveat as usually I will denote one of each model as my beater gun and shoot all sorts of terrible ammo from it. As my ppq has looser tolerances, it will each everything while the vp9 chokes on some.garbage ammo.

That said both of their siblings have been 100% with +p gold dots and that is all I really care about

For what its worth, my "beater" VP9 has over 2700 documented rounds thru it without a cleaning (other then the new out the cleaning) , firing all factory ammo without a hiccup; WWB, American Eagle, UMC. Blazer Brasss and PMC. It has also eaten without incident; Federal HST, Cor-Bon, Winchester Ranger and Remington Golden Saber.

Unlike my Glocks, there has been NO loosening if the slide to frame fit.

My first VP is closing in on 2k rounds of a combination of WWB, Ranger NATO, and whatever Iron Sghts uses in their reloads. Not a single malfunction.

Don't know what to tell you. Of the 3 VPs I've shot, I've never had a failure.
