I picked up a Ruger Mark III Target model #10158 22/45 last week, right on time (actually one day past its falling off of the CADOJ list) with no delay beyond the mandatory ten day wait and no SSN provided.

I have a very common name. I use the last 4 of my SS# XXX-XX-1234 on DROS. Never had a problem. Wish I could say that when I try to fly.

I think the delays sometimes happen at random, but if you dros in store you can write your ss#

After 31 days the FFL can release the firearm, if he has not then it is because he has chosen not to.

It has to be on the 30th day. After 30 days the feds say the 4473 expires.

Having it on paper just opens you up to identify theft issues if the FFL gets robbed or has shady employees.
                      +1

Before I actually worked for a gun shop I always put my SS# on the form. But it truly can't help anything unless the ATF/DOJ come specifically looking for your 4473. We don't have anywhere to input it on your DROS. So essentially you're putting your SS# on a form that will exist forever and pass through multiple hands at your FFL, and onto God knows how many people at the DOJ/ATF EVENTUALLY.

^^^ What is OC Firearms' policy on DOJ delay? Will OCF release the firearm on day #30 if DOJ does not respond? Thanks.

We don't have a set policy. We will usually release the firearm when it is at our discretion. There are obviously exceptions to that, and we decide each delay on a case by case basis.

But in general if you don't creep us out or make us think you're crazy you can pick up your firearm on day 31.

nope, because CADOJ is supposed to issue you a new background check number for the FFL to add to the 4473. that restarts the 30-day 4473 clock. what happens is CADOJ informs the dealer after 30-days that they couldn't confirm that the buyer was clean, but at the same time, they couldn't' confirm that he was prohibited. based on the fact that they can't absolutely deny him with the info they had, they are forced to issue a "release code" that the FFL can put on the 4473 when they complete the DROS.

Do you want an AOW or C&R SBS/SBR in CA?

I never put my social on the form and never have any problems.

Well it has been almost 3 months now. Still being delayed. So I went back and got my money back on the lower I bought.

Will the CDOJ still be checking out if I can have a gun? And if someday they say I am OK, will it take longer than 10 days to have them OK it?
