I vote for the Sig P226. It's chok full of awesome. I love my Beretta. But if I had to give one up, I'd keep the Sig. It's a better carry piece due to size.

If you are going to be carrying i think you should go with a polymer fullsize, an XD9, GLock 17 or M&P9, I have the M&P9, those other guns you mentioned are great but i feel they would get heavy as the day goes on with all that metal weight. But thats just me. But try them out the M&P feels great in hand and also has multiple back straps so you can put on the Large strap to fit your hand better. if so be quick i think it falls off roster in about 3 to 4 months

good luck on your search a good 9 mm is always a great carry choice

I'm partial to Sig so I'll say go with P226 because of your size. But for a short guy like me, my favorite is P229 although P226 is my second. Threy're both very reliable and pleasant to shoot.

My post was assuming a typical inside the waste band carry. As most people do CCW.
For your type of scenario as a lawman I would more than agree that a beretta in an OWB holster may be perfect.

Only one post about 3rd gen Smith&Wesson's? Lot's of options if you don't mind buying used. (They're tough, though). Da/sa with a very safe decocker. Go bang every time. We took one out that hadn't been cleaned or fired in 5 years and it ran flawlessly.

And in California, the single stack options are nice.
