I can adjust to a high bore axis. That's all in knowing and training with your firearms. Maybe I'll rent a p226 when I meet up with trenchfoot and we can get a solid comparison.

As long as your not worried about the size, I think the Beretta 92FS is a solid choice. It was my EDC/CCW gun for 10 years and I'm 5'08" 175. It was the gun I trained with, I knew it would go bang everytime I pulled the trigger and I felt confident with it. It was also easy to maintain. If this is your first choice, I feel it is a solid one.

That's the best way to do it. Try/rent, shoot and compare.

Just holding and dry firing usually isn't sufficient.

1-shot the 92FS. was never a fan of it.
2-P226 I own 2. If you want a new but without being CA neutered, try SSE route. Some FFLs were DROSing MK25s without SSE, don't know if it's still an option. So that could be a way. P229, that would be a good CCW option. With a 9mm frame, you can only use a 22LR conversion kit. With the 40SW frame, you can use 357Sig, 9mm, and 22LR conversion kits.
3-USP, shot the 45acp version, didn't like the feel of it. Got a HK45 instead. If you are interested in a 9mm version try the P30. Both are SSE only.

Glocks to me are hard to control and the amount of money I spent upgrading it, it pretty much cost the same as a Sig.

Try out some guns and see what you like or don't like. It's all about individual preferences.

I'd go for a P226 or P229. While the SIG doesn't have a safety, it does have a de-cocking lever, so you can have a DA trigger pull for the first round - if you carry it with a round in the chamber.

Some Beretta 92 series models - like the M9A1 - don't have night sights and the front sight is not easily replaced on some. Two of the 3 P226 models I have owned have had night sights from the factory (the one that didn't was a CPO).

SIG charges $369 for a caliber change. You send your frame in, and they will send it back with a new slide and barrel. If you want the stainless finish, there is an extra charge for bead blasting. (I have been thinking about dong this and called them a couple of weeks ago.)

I think some - maybe all - of the dark P226 models have an alloy frame vs. the stainless frame on a stainless model - and weigh a little less.

[QUOTE=pterrell;13816824]That was the first weapon I bought sir! Sadly, a 1911 is a bit impractical to carry since you can't safely decock it and carrying locked and cocked isn't exactly the safest carry in the world.

I carry my 1911-A1 all the time. Very safe, has a grip safety and manual safety.

Just looked at riflegear's website. Their Sigs seem a little steep compared to others. Is that just me?

I have and regularly shoot both the P226 & P229. My favorite is always the one I am shooting at the moment...

I picked them up as CPOs. Both are like new. I did at one point, avail myself of a special at the factory and gave them both the full treatment. Non-railed, clean and great for carry. Sounds like you have enough frame that the size difference won't really matter. IF you could comfortably carry an X-Five, it is the best shooting pistol I own.

I'm really beginning to think that the P226 is where I'll end up. I see it closely followed by the CZ line the most often in this thread. The test will be when I get to the range this week

beretta m9a1. that slide racks so buttery smooth.

I do highly recommend the SRT mod. Have ended up with it on all my Sigs. Much easier on my arthritic trigger finger...

I also have the P226 scorpion, sweet gun, it comes with the SRT trigger from the factory. That being said I still prefer my M&P9 with Apex mods.

If I wanted to carry a fullsize 9mm and was being held to the 10 round maximum.....easy decision for me.....1911. I own a cz 75BD and a SP 01..... Both are big pistols....the sp 01 is damn near 4 lbs loaded. Seems like a lot of wasted grip space if you can't keep > 10 rounds in it. I'd much rather rock the single stack with the great trigger. And cocked and locked with a grip safety and a manual safety is safer than decocked on a live round with no safety IMO. Now for pure pleasure of shooting at the range.....the cz's are awesome. M&P 9 is great too....but again it's wide and I know you stated you don't like the striker fired design. If I were exempt from mag capacity limit.....I think I would probably carry my m&p and maybe sometimes the cz 75BD for shorter durations. I don't own the beretta, but have shot my friends.....again....a huge gun to carry only 10 rounds in. I didn't like the ergos or the slide mounted safety/decocker

I carried a Beretta 92FS in an OWB holster. As a career lawman I have deployed my CCW in several situations. Most people will never do anything in a CCW scenario. So that is a oxymoronic statement.
