It is hard to blow out your top three but here goes:

    - HK P30 or P30L. Hold one and you will know
    - M&P or Glock 17 I know you don't like striker fire system but you should try it out.
    - CZ P-01. Not SP-01. This one is a tank for carry.
    - Sig P229 - The grip is a bit wider than the P226 and you may like it more with your large hands.
    - Sig SP2022.

I had considered the P229. Basically same system but with a shorter barrel. The SP2022 isn't out of the question but I do prefer a steel or alloy frame over polymer. What is the difference between the two CZs you mentioned? What's special about the P30 and P30L? Polymer frame again. Got it

        Someone 6'5" and 230 should be shooting a 45.

They're not liberals, they're leftists. Please don't use the former for the latter. Liberals are Locke, Jefferson, Burke, Hayek. Leftists are progressives, Prussian state-socialists, fascists. Liberals stand against the state and unequivocally support liberty. Leftists support state tyranny.

That was the first weapon I bought sir! Sadly, a 1911 is a bit impractical to carry since you can't safely decock it and carrying locked and cocked isn't exactly the safest carry in the world.

Edit: Didn't realize how crappy that pic was when I took it. That's just shameful!

of the choices you have given, I would take the SIG p226. I prefer German over Italian but HK have always marched to their own drummer.

How about a Springfield Armory 1911 in 9mm?

The HK USP is a polymer frame just so you know. The P-01 is a compact do I guess you can throw it out from your wish list . The CZ SP-01 weights more than the P226. It's not ideal for carry but you may have no problem.

I own and caress an SP01, the reason i didn't mention it in my above post is because you would carry that cocked and locked AND its way too heavy for CCW.

If you really plan on carrying, the SP01 and 92fs MUST be thrown out.

If it were just the fact that I wanted a 9mm to carry I'd buy a slide and barrel for my 1911. I'm looking for SA/DA rather than SAO

Didn't know that about the USP but I'm glad you told me. It amazes me that you're buying a polymer frame at that price! So the CZ SP-01 is a full size then?

Yeah cocked and locked does not appeal to me. I'm sure there are plenty of people who do, have no problem with it and say it's the only true way to carry but the reality is that a ND is more likely to occur with a cocked and locked 1911 or other SA handgun than it will with a DA/SA one.

I do agree that the 92fs would be a poor choice for CCW. The only reason that it is on the list is because of my familiarity with the platform and the price point on a metal frame vs plastic.

I would take a look at the XD 45 full size. I have the 45 and recently grabbed a 9mm XDm. The XD has a grip safety. Go try one out at the range.

Actually cocked and locked is extremely safe. Especially when you have the grip safety as well. Follow the rules and you're fine.

American Shooting Center in San Diego off Kearny Mesa? I'm 10 mins from there and was actually thinking about going this week.

Don't get me wrong. I know and understand all the safeties on my 1911 and trust them to work properly. I just have that uneasy feeling about walking around in public with the hammer cocked. I'm a firm believer that in order to carry effectively, you should feel comfortable in doing so. I would not feel comfortable with my 1911 cocked and would end up carrying 8+0 which would seriously hamper my ability to defend myself.

Granted it's not a 9mm but the Sig P220 may work for you. Otherwise, I'll go with S&W 39-2 or the S&W 908. Good luck!
