    Hollow Points vs. Drywall

    I saw this video:

As I pretty much suspected, an HP round will go through 12 in. of ballistics gel, through 2 sheets of drywall, and continue through another sample of ballistics gel. Drywall is flimsy stuff, afterall.

    On this video:

... HP's go through a car door and a plywood board. Everything from 22 through 45.

Seems to me like all that talk about using HP's to prevent over-penetration through walls will give a false sense of security.

I live in a dense apartment complex, and I'm pretty worried.

I have seen emergency room reports as well as coroners reports. I have rarely seen rounds that hit actual humans ever act like ballistic gel. The gel tests were established by the FBI in the 80's to have some kind of baseline for terminal performance. The gel mimics the consistency of flesh and flesh only. It does not mimic the density of muscle or bone...

Glaser safety slugs. They were designed with your situation in mind.

That's why you don't use HP pistol rounds for indoor defense. Want to protect your home? Get a 12 with birdshot /shrug. Though this topic has been discussed ad nauseum.

Ive fired a hollow point through 4 evenly spaced sheets of dry way without any expansion.

Ar15. The 223/556 round shatters when it hits dry wall because it's a lightweight projectile moving very fast

And the GENERAL ad nauseum consensus is that birdshot isn't an ideal SD round. Different shells excel in different surroundings. #4 buck has been regarded as one of the better rounds for a wide range of scenarios. Birdshot is definitely lethal, there are just far better options.

"Knowing what's beyond your target" is likely impossible in an apartment HD situation. You may know your neighbors' floorplans, but you won't know where anyone is located.

+1 on the Glasers if you're dead set on using a pistol.

I guess that is the problem: He knows what (and whom) is behind the target.
