But, but, but he should have carried an HK45. That's what Seal Team 6 carries, and also what Larry Vickers would carry.

Back to the original topic; I do not have personal experience with RIA guns, but have heard good things about them. I do have experience with Springfield Armory and I am very happy with them. Their customer service is phenomenal. I believe the price of SA’s GI and Mil Spec models are in line with RIA.

If memory serves me correctly (someone correct me if I am wrong) the RIA frames are cast and not forged. For me personally, I would rather spend a few extra bucks to get a forged frame.
If I had to describe myself in one word it would be "bad at following directions"

Go with the RIA if you want a starter, thats what i did. Its a very nice reliable pistol with a good trigger that will hold me over for a few years until im ready to buy a nicer one or build one the way i really want...and when that time comes i'll keep the RIA for a beater and when it gets beat up I wont care too much, just refinish when needed and replace whatever parts i feel might need replacing

Since '06, they are no longer cast. They are made from extruded bar stock. The small parts, minus the barrel, are still MIM. All in all, still a good investment for the money. Yes, a SA Mil-Spec 1911 or Colt Series 70 will be better, but for the money spent on either, I'd realistically expect them to be better. A gun is like any other tool. You get what you pay for. As long as you accept that before you make your purchase, it's all good.--1911ShooterPhil

              What is wrong with a 9mm 1911?

              No offense, I'm really curious!

I personally have a Dan Wesson PM7 as my 1911. It sits in my safe alongside my Bersa Thunder in .380 and my Heritage Rough Rider in .22LR/.22 mag.
Just curious, which one of these guns is the best indicator of my... Never mind, you get the pic.
I never carried for my work and have never brandished a gun in self defense. I can tell you that I love shooting my DW. For me, the 1911 just feels good.
Now back too the OP; 'Get a Glock'.
Sorry man, I just had to say it ;-).

I have a 1911 in 9mm. Most of you know it as a Browning Hi-Power.

I once showed up at a biker bar riding a Kawasaki KLR-650 dual sport. I actually thought that a couple of the guys there would put my bike in a dumpster! Kind of strange.

During my time in the military, I qualified with both the 1911, and the Beretta. Very different, but I enjoyed them both. To me, a 1911 9mm combines both of them.
