which .45

I plan on purchasing a colt 1911 but I would like to get a budget 1911 first. Any reccomendations?
I know u get what you pay for and I like a gun to tinker with...I was thinking RIA. Any thoughts

The ria was my first 1911. Its never failed me since I bought it a year ago and I've put about 1000+ rounds through it. Just be aware 1911's become an addiction.

You asked which .45, and so I will say my personal opinion, which is a HK45/HK45C.

That being said, your intended purpose needs to be identified prior to making such a purchase.

I went with a RIA and quickly traded for a Used Sig P220. Much more reliable and better gun IMO. Guns were for HD and range plinking.

If you are set on a 1911, why not just wait and buy once?

For budget, if you're LEO or out of state, get a Taurus as a first, and use it as it sits. It has a lot of the basic upgrades you would want to do already, and can sell it for about what you pay for it. When you're ready, get a semi-custom or customize your Colt. There are so many options, no answer is the right answer because depending on your situation, you can drop 400 or 4000 really quick. If you really want, I'm sure I can find you a 20k gun most days of the week.

The OP asked a question, and people offered their opinion. Just like you offered your opinion. You believe the Hk45 works best for you, some say Glock, RIA, or Tauras. Opinions are like ***** holes, everyone has on, and they all stink.

Best option is for the OP to go to a range and shoot various pistols, and buy the one that is most comfortable and best for him at his price range.

The 1991a1 can be found for around 700 bucks. Just have to look. Only a couple hundred more than RIA.

The beauty of a 1911 is how great you can get that trigger to feel once you get it worked on by a competent gunsmith. But be prepared to spend some cash and also wait to get it worked on.

If you are ever in OC, stop by On Target shooting range. They have a Wilson Combat 1911 that cost approx $3k for rent. The trigger on the handgun is Nothing Short of AMAZING. That gun will give you an idea of what you can do to a 1911.

If you just want a .45 and you dont plan to upgrade the trigger, I say go with the RIA and enjoy it.

If you are going to dump a good chunk of change into a 1911 trigger, start off with a tighter platform like the Colt or Springfield. These are just my opinions, YMMV.

If you are looking to just pick up a .45 and it doesnt have to be a 1911, but you still want to stay in the RIA price range, check out the Glock 21 slim frame or the Springfield XD45. I have the Springfield XD45 and its a great shooter. I have rented the Glock 21SF and its a great gun too. Both of those guns are also available for rent at On Target in OC.

+1...... 1911's are not something you go cheap on, and I don't care how many people have had "luck" with their Armscor RI 1911's... If you really want a .45 in that price range, get a modern polymer design and be done. Glock,, XD, SR45, or a good used P220. Of course that's only my opinion. If you like to tinker, you can do all kinds of things with the Glock.

True story. I have a range queen 1911 for VERY accurate shooting at 25 yards offhand, and a Ruger P345d at home for things that go bump in the night. Neither pistol has ever let me down, and I can say in some ways, the Ruger is better than a 3-4k 1911, but I'd take my 1911 over any other automatic pistol I own without batting an eye.

My pref hkusp 45c. But go to rage shoot em all see what u like best and feel most at ease with and fits ar budget.
