Why is the price of Pythons so high? Because the supply is limited (they aren't made any more), and the demand is increasing (because they have reached cult status). There are lots of gun people who have lots of money in their pockets, which drives prices up.
There are several similar cases of collectible guns whose prices have gone astronomical; the Sig P210 is but one example. On that one, the .22LR magazines alone go for about $400 to $500.
Highpower said that if Colt started making Pythons again, the price of older models would go down. It probably would not. Sig-Sauer (not identical to SIG) started making P210s again, and the price of "traditional" P210s did not decrease.
