You don't know how many inches it is?I just DROS'ed a Python. It may make some of you cringe but I plan to shoot it!
By the serial number it looks to be made in 1980. No box and looks like non-OEM grips? Anyone care to guess what it's worth? I'll keep it to myself what I shelled out
Looks to be in near mint condition, I'd guess around 95%? looks to be an 8" model?
Any other details about it I can get from the serial besides the year it was made?
Would love to find a box and OEM grips for it.

Let me know when yoru ready to sell, I'm looking for one myself.Hello All
Just wondering why Python prices have been so high lately. Looks like someone sold a 6" Python for 3k?? (no box, and aftermarket grips)
I have a 4" 99% with box and paper work I am really thinking about letting loose.
I know the political climate is crazy, but they're not going to ban revolvers
Hope I posted this in the right forum, too many to choose from.
Thanks!!Comment

Please get it right, dammit.
"SSE" (single-shot exemption) does NOT work for REVOLVERS, just pistols.
For revolvers, you use the SINGLE-ACTION REVOLVER exemption instead, providing the gun is dimensionally compliant/holds 5 or more rounds.

WTF was that guy thinking??? And why the heck would someone use a $5 hacksaw on such an expensive <insert anything here, anything at all>Here is the shooter I picked up a few months ago.......
Here is one that a fella brought in to a local gunsmith to "fix". He wanted to have the barrel replaced because he "damaged" the original barrel. Be ready to shed some tears....The fella admitted to using a hacksaw.

But, Ron how does it shoot????Comment

Colts Manufacturing http://www.coltsmfg.com/ is the place to send your Python to for timing, parts and even hack saw repairs.
They are not cheap but they are the easiest and maybe the most available.
I'll buy that hack-job....sigpic

Pictures are made to look at. Guns are made for shooting. Print up a nice 8x10 glossy and put that in your safe to look at when you get bored. Take the real thing out and shoot nice groups every weekend. Colt didn't intend those guns to collect dust.

Agreed. I have plenty of Colts and S&Ws, and the Colts are nothing near a $3k nice gun. If I'm spending that kind of money on a shooter, it would have been through Hamilton Bowen's hands first. My 6 inch Model 19 has a better trigger than my 4 inch Python. The Python is excellent but the S&W is just better. That's my reality and I am sticking to it.
I looked for prices lately and saw everything from $1700 and up. Lots of $2k. Hope that helps a little since very few that want to post answer your question. Go to the gun auction site and peruse the pythons listed there to get a feel for models, condition and prices.
I do not get the Python prices. They aren't $3000 nice when it comes to shooting. For Sale: Off Roster Handgun Moving Sale

While all quality firearms have been rising in price, it seems that Pythons are just going crazy. If Colt was to reintroduce the Python, built with the same quality as the originals, the price of older models may or may not go down some.
Smith and Wesson have the Classic line of revolvers that more or less resemble the pre-81 P&R models (without the P&R,) but that hasn't stopped the rise in prices of the older guns.
I bought this 1964 Python that rates a solid 97% a couple of years ago for $850, now I suppose it would fetch around double that or maybe a bit more. I don't shoot it that much, but it does get fired from time to time.

$600 or $3000, something is worth whatever someone is willing to pay for it. If Python's are going for $3K that means there's a market for it. People who "think" buyers over-pay for stuff need to realize their opinions don't shape the market, the people that spend money do...
