    Current Colt Python Prices???

    Hello All

Just wondering why Python prices have been so high lately. Looks like someone sold a 6" Python for 3k?? (no box, and aftermarket grips)

I have a 4" 99% with box and paper work I am really thinking about letting loose.

I know the political climate is crazy, but they're not going to ban revolvers

Hope I posted this in the right forum, too many to choose from.

    Thanks!!

      Always remember this.

Buy a S&W to shoot, Buy a Python to Collect. And you NEVER sell a Python, You only buy more...

It is getting over the top...I think in our state, since they are not on the roster of approved handguns, they can be difficult to acquire from out of state unless a FFL is willing to do a SSE. Or, we're stuck with what is available in state.

No disrepect, but have to disagree. Why would you not shoot the sweetest wheel gun in the world to shoot?

Well a Python is nice and I had a 1972 production that I got for $350 used. But when the price is right it left for a new home.

Some of the current proposed laws would ban PPT for off-roster guns and getting one through SSE so getting your hands on a python next year could be difficult.

My great uncle had a 1969 Colt Python 6 inch .357, brand new never fired! I got to have it in my possession for a couple months, but ultimately it went to another family member...It was SWEET though! I never fired it, just held it a lot...

I may or may not have one up for sale reeeaally soon. if I do sell, I will give my brothers in California first crack at it. It is true though, when you handle them, they are stout and conform perfectly to the hand.

The going price seems to be at $3,000 recent weeks.
Wonder if it will hit the $4,000 mark at the end of the year.

Would a stainless one with original box and sleeve command a higher premium over the blued ones? I have this one, but it would pain me to part with it, unless the price was right.

My 3+ year search for a 4" blue Python ended about a month ago! I will report that I paid 1500 (closer to 1700 w/ tax + background). Already heard a few unsolicited comments at various ranges that I overpaid but I would do it again in a heartbeat. First gun I shot was my granddads 4" blue Python and when I close my eyes and think "gun" its the only thing I can see. Well, when he got diagnosed with cancer his second wives kids came up and cleaned out all his possessions. Every gun, every rod, even took his Pendletons! So i never ended up with his Python but made a promise to myself I would replicate it on my own.

Over the years I passed on different finishes or different barrel lengths knowing that one day I would get just what I wanted. I also passed on a NIB (test fired only) 4" blue python because the guy wanted $3,000. I actually had no problem with the price, but I wanted to shoot mine, and felt I should really leave this rare pristine specimen for a safe queen type.

Anyway, picture is not great but here she is:

Serial number indicates 1967 production. Locks up like a vault, and cylinder gap looks great! A bit of finish wear but its not abuse marks, just signs of a well loved and well used Colt... and I got NO problem with that! I have already taken it out half a dozen times. It's everything I hoped it would be.
