Glock vs H&K

I have both. I agree depends on your purpose and budget. I love both, but I take my glock 17 to the range a lot more than my hk mark 23 socom. I also like the look of walther and how they work too

Are you talking about the USP? I prefer a one piece slide release that does not look like it was made by HiPoint. I get the utitarian concept but it is really ugly and detracts from the pistol.

I'm not sure what you mean? Are you talking about a glock or hk? I'm sure most people agree that the glock slide release isn't very ergonomic. Ive owned every caliber and size of glock only time their slide release comes in handy is for ccw. Besides that I don't care for it.i consider a glock to be superior in function then almost any firearm and for the price can't beat it with a stick. But when it boils down to it for the extra money you get a little of a more comfortable feel overall with a Hk

If money is no object, H&K. Money is usually an object though, and some argue that you start to see diminishing returns in "getting what you pay for" past the $600 mark or so.

100% true in this case... you do get what you pay for, but you don't "need" more in the case of these two.. right? Aside from preference on grip feel.

I like the Glock and own a 3rd gen 17. BUT the HK P30 has all the features I want and the grip feels 1000% custom made for me hand.

Got a g17 and a USP. Both shoot good but Glock has way more after market parts that are sold everywhere.

i absolutely love both brands; h&k has the best location of controls (v1 decocker/safety & mag release), glock has the best compromise of sizing (g19/23 midsize) and hte best dead-nuts simplicity

i've never had a problem with any of them. my uspF40 was my first gun; sold it for money issues because i was young but i think anybody would be good with anything from either manufacturer.

the only thing i hate is the crappy rail setup on H&K's unless you step up to a P30/45

if it's comfy in your hands, go for it.

Dude, for $50 you can have a connector, extended slide release, extended mag release, and extended slide lock (the takedown bar)..... and have it done in 15 minutes.

What's not simple about shooting a Sig or an HK LEM?

Idk about you but i'm groggy when I wake up in the middle of the night.also your motor skills in a stress situation deteriorate a bit. Id rather just point and shoot then Mess with any form of safety. The hk in a lem model would be ideal imo if you were gonna go hk for H.d

Had a Glock 23; upgraded to an HK P2000. At least that's how I look at it. Ergonomics where the driving factor in my switch, the HK just fits my hand better. Functionally they have both been 100% reliable but there are a couple features on the HK that give it a slight edge over the Glock IMO. Its fully ambidextrous, and its got second strike capability.

Hk is overpriced for what it is.

^^^this.....It's one of the top brands in the 'overpriced' catagory....The guys that usually buys the hk's usually have deep pockets, the guys that just are in love with the look usually thru video gaming then in real life and the dedicated bandwagon fanboys. One example: I know a guy who has deep pockets and drives a brand new porsche, owns a nice size home, no kids and owns mostly hk's. Another is a buddy of mines. He's not rich at all, but owns a decent house, all into video gaming and loves the hk. He planning to buy one soon but complains of the high price tag. He complains that 40sw ammo is expensive and only stocks a few boxes claiming that's more than enough. Let alone, he doesn't have a damn clue how much hk mags are going for along with any replacement parts etc....I guess he thinks that because if he owns an hk that it is superior to all others and a lowly peasant of a gun like an xd or glock will never outperform it...lol Anyone who's looking for the best bang for the buck and also fits the hand generally steers towards glocks, xd, mp, ruger etc.

I sold my G26 last year and replaced it with a HK P2000sk which I'm still liking a lot. And I'm picking up a P2000 in a few days. That should tell you where I stand.

My Glock was a disaster. It was fine for the first 800 rounds, then the brass to face thing started. Mine turned out to be one of the ones that would have required hand fitting to fix, even the Apex extractor didn't fix the problem. It was getting worse over time and included about two FTE s per 100 by the time I sold it to a guy more willing to tinker with it than I was. Yes, only some unknown percentage have this issue, and on the G17 and G19 it can (usually) be fixed. But I've lost faith in both the gun and in a manufacturer willing to ship guns that way. They aren't what they once were.

My HK cost more, but unlike my Glock which had $135 in mods, the only thing I've added to the HK is an extended mag release ($23). The HK has been flawless, it's as accurate as my full size guns, and I really like the ambidextrous features.

Sweeping generalizations are usually flawed.

I drive a 10 year old car and don't do video games. I'm gradually shifting everything to HK.

Why? They work. Most reliable guns I have ever owned, which leads me to believe I'm getting what I paid for. And unlike some other brands, I don't need to make a ton of aftermarket mods to get the gun where I want it. Factor that in and there isn't much price difference.

As for mags, I bought one for a P2000/USPc yesterday for $44, shop around online and they can sometimes be found for $39. Right in the next bin were Glock mags for $35. Anyone worried about $9 probably should consider a hobby other than shooting, given the cost of ammo these days.

The debate comes down to marginal utility: is an HK which costs double a Glock model of the same niche worth the difference?

That determination cannot be objectively made. Most of us civilians, including LE, aren't carrying guns in genuinely hostile environments. HK overbuilds their weapons, which is ideal if your a soldier or special ops guy. Not so much when you need a gun to keep away the goblins en route to the local 7/11. We don't exactly need a "hostile environment finish" or underwater durability to safeguard our air-conditioned homes.

In fact, the argument could be made in anti-gun cities and states that owning an expensive defensive pistol like an HK is something to AVOID, considering the certain loss of the firearm in the event its used.

For most of us, a utilitarian M&P or Glock will do the same thing an HK can do at a fraction of the cost.

Now-with that being said, not all HK pistols are necessarily $1000+ . I don't know the prices in California, but up here in the Midwest its not uncommon to find used USPs selling for $500 to $550 in used gun displays. Naturally, the entire argument changes when cost is taken out of the equation, and HKs are so overbuilt a used one is impossible to bubba like a 1911 or Glock.
