It's like I say about my boat. They are gonna get scratches and dings in them from use but no need to accelerate the process. Take care of them, show them respect and don't use them as pry tools or hammers.

I've noticed signs of wear on my Px4 from holster use. That's a lot easier to stomach than an idiot scratch. The barrel on my AR on the other hand...

Ya, PX4' have a sprayed on/baked finish that will go quicker from holster friction.

I saw an interview of Chris Costa where they ask him how can he trash a $4,000 gun. He simply said it's a tool.

A different invterview with James Yeager to a gunsmith a Wilson Combat said when he gets a new gun he drops in the gravel on purpose. That we he won't baby it and will be able to push it.

I guess I have to agree somewhat. Although there are some guns I just don't want to scratch. hmmm.

No, bumping into ports, that kind of thing. And normal holster wear from the kydex, or pitching into a sand/gravel filled safe box during a 3 gun.

I try to keep in mind that these are tools. I keep my tools clean and give them the respect that they deserve. Normal wear and tear is accepted and the occasional scratch or ding, while at the time is irritating, is just one of the things an owner of tools puts up with.

Unless you're describing a hideous gouge, bent slide or broken parts that need replacement, minor scratches and wear from normal use should be ignored. If it gets really bad, there are refinishing services flourishing everywhere that would be happy to make your pistol look like new.

My new Les Baer has scratches on the slide. I gave myself 30 seconds to dwell and now I think I'm over it.

Some unburnt powder or other crud got caught up in my holster and after some draws/reholsters, it's put some fine scratches in the bluing.
