    slide scratches rant

Well, the other day I was doing some drills in the bedroom. Using snap caps, was practicing off hand reloads and things of the like. Of course, wife poking jokes, but showed interest.

Well, it didn't help when I'm using the new p220 and go to chamber on my pants and scratch the hell out of the slide on my pant rivet. She just about rolled on the floor laughing from my look. I just told her that scars on my gun have to match the scars on my knuckles...

But hey, I didn't purchase my guns to be safe queens. All my guns show lots of wear, thank heaven for new developments in diy paint like cerakote and duracoat.

Ever scratch your gun? What was your reaction?

That's alright. I had a nearly new Aimpoint comp M4 get blown off a shooting bench onto the concrete. I about lost it. 2 minutes later I was like, oh well, now I don't have to worry about more marks. Let's go have some fun.

I do have some guns that are safe queens, but for any of the ones that are shooters, I try to take care of, but marks are part of the game.

Then there are the people who lay their AR's/rifles on raw concrete brick, or asphalt to photograph them for the FS section............ I see that, I just move on. So the Nitron finish on your Sig was not pants button proof? Scratching a $800+ pistol would irritate the crap out of me.......considering its probably not a "duty" weapon.

          Bah happens

LOL Bro don't sweat the small stuff that's what they are made for ...use... I have some scratches on the left side of my Kimber from strong side Barricade Stages. Pissed me off a little then I was like /shrug it is what it is. It's like getting scratches on a 4x4.

Oh and now that I think of it I had my 1st AR high side on a magpul 30 rounder and the bi-pod and roll off the bench

I treat my guns like I do my cameras - used them and not worry about it but I also try to take care of them. I will take the extra 3 steps to set my M1 down in her case instead of in the dirt etc... Given that they only see the range, safe and an occasional trip to the desert most of them look close to pristine except my Beretta which shows wear but has about 15K rounds thru it.

Guns are built to be shot, cars are built to be driven, toys need to be taken out of the packages and if you don't have arthritis and/or a replaced joint before you die, you're just not trying very hard.

I scratched the s**t out of my stainless 1911 .38 super. I placed it in a bag that was full of screwdrivers, screws and other tools and forgot about it. By the time i remembered the damage was done

If you use a gun in any capacity, it's going to get scratched and dinged. Don't baby a gun, but don't abuse it either.

My 1911 has a scratch just beneath the slide stop lever. It shows that I don't put a tampon in before I clean my gun.

And here is my first competition gun:

scratches and marks are inevitable. i mostly look at the type of scratches and marks it has.
normal wear and tear marks on a gun that is otherwise well taken care of = w/e.
someone really likes a particular gun the way it is and wants it to stay "new" = w/e.
marks/damage that seem like they mostly come from carelessness, neglect, laziness, or just plain stupidity = try to avoid.

All tools should show signs of use, not abuse.
