I had a real strong desire to get one, and a PS90 as well. Both are well made, very accurate, and cartridge sharing between the two seemed like a great idea.
But it struck me then, and it still does, that the round is really designed around and for maximizing the magazine size. That is, the small high speed round, delivered in volume, is a potent weapons system.
The problem is, here in CA, there isn't much to the 'delivered in volume' component of the equation. Instead of 20 (or even 30) rounds in the FiveSeven, you get 10. In the PS90, instead of 50 you get 10. So the whole design center of the guns are thrown way off because of the CA limitation.
They are still cool guns, well made, etc., buy their designers must be cringing and laughing at the people in CA (or NY perhaps) who are buying them.
I don't mean this as a CA-bashing thing. It is what it is.
But it has even had me questioning why I ended up focusing my handgun rounds (as well as a PCC) on 9mm. Since we're limited to 10 shots, the logic would dictate that you should get the biggest round that you can get - limited by the heaviest recoil you can handle. For many, that would be .45's. For me, it should have been an H&K USP45 and one of their .45 PCC's. Right now, I shoot a 9x19 USP and an H&K MP5 clone. Might have made a mistake with that plan. Just never thought it through (and I really wanted an MP5!).

P.S. BTW, I have one box of 5.7 cartridges that I'm happy to sell. I usually by one box of a new round when I'm considering adding a different cartridge design to the (very small) collection (i.e. I bought a box of .308's before getting my Tikka. Etc.). I don't know why, but it helped me 'click' in understanding the folly (IMHO) of buying the 5.7 in CA. A bit OCD I suppose.

I've been really wanting a FNH Five seveN for a while now but it's mainly because it looks badass and feels great in my hand. Anyone know of any gun ranges in Northern CA that lets you rent one for lane use? I would really like to try it out before I drop that much cash on a pistol. What are the opinions of those that have them already.

You can start with gving me a rundown of what agencies use the 5.7. It's also a big honkin gun and if I'm carrying somethig that large it needs to put the hurt on large furry things as my wods gun. Like a 44 mag or glock 20. The 5.7 is a useless novelty range gun.

I own a 460Magnum but until you are willing to be shot by 5.7 your arguments are completely invalid so quit with your worthless carp.

You are the bs. I bought it at city arms and sold it on gunbroker years ago. The hll I need them pictures for. I say how it is. If you disconnect the mag and accidentally drop it -it'll chip the plastic off the frame. It fell on hard wood floor. You just like talking out of your €€. Go pound sand.

Even if someone were to sell something with imperfection on GB, a photo would normally be take to show just that.
A smarter person would send it to FN for a replacement but that's not the truth since it's well known that it's a military/police tested firearm and it's not made out of cheese.

BTW, usually people with personal claims like that with no evidence to back it up are the one normally referred to as "talking out of your €€"
How about you go kick rocks instead and maybe while at it you can find imaginary photo of your claim.

9mm crushes more tissue than 5.7...fact. Why would you want to use an inffective gun? Unless sniping ground hogs with a pistol from 50 yards is your POU for the gun it's outclassed and ineffective. Could it be fun at a range or plinking? Sure. But so is a .22.
