But to all the people using the Fort Hood shooting as an argument to how lethal the round is. Out of the 42 people Hasan shot, 13 were killed. That's 30% of the victims shot. Not very effective, thankfully.
      1) Where's the identical event with other caliber? I actually mean identical not similar since that's the only way do measure anything.

      2) How were most people shot? Placement, numbers, misses, etc.

3)How many people got shot in Aurora, CO and how many were killed? Going with your way of thinking, AR isn't very effective or maybe FN FiveseveN is even superior to AR. I meant look at the %, right?

        1) only a similar instance: Virginia Tech Shooting. Cho used a 9mm and .22. killed 32 out of the 44 people he shot. 72%

        2) I'm not sure. But there shouldn't be any misses. The 5.7 shoots like a 22 right??
        edit: 214 rounds fired

        3) Moot. It's been reported that Holmes fired less than 30 rounds from his AR.

I think many of us really likes guns. For looks, for target shooting, and ultimately for home defense. Some guns are just fun to have and shoot. Five Seven fall into that for me. Love to have one, but can't afford the ammo. Not every gun in your possession has to have the stopping power of a AA-12. Besides lethality and incapacitatin are too different things. All guns are lethal, it's a matter of how many shots and shot placement!

I am a recent owner of an FNH 5.7 pistol. IMHO it has the second best trigger of all my handguns after the venerable 1911. The design of the pistol is really cool...stamped slide encased by polymer, traditional rear slide guide bars with a T-beam front guide, captured barrel recoil spring with a chromed barrel exterior for lubricity, direct blow back, minimal recoil, flat shooting, incredibly accurate (I have shot quals with both 1911 and 5.7 and first time out matched one of my 1911 high scores with the 5.7).

Negatives: I am not a fan of mag disconnects which it has. Would be nice if they made replaceable tritium sights for it as well. Sadly the 5.7 is chambered in dollar bills right now as the best current prices I've found are the SS197 at about $0.70 each.

Ballistically it is sending a 30-40 grain projectile at about 1700 to 1800 fps which will definitely put hurt on anything it touches. If you need more, then you are talking a much larger AR pistol with similar weight projectiles.

Of course the last new pistol I really liked was the Sig P250 and it looks like its going the way of the Dodo...

Not the same, different shooter, different isolated victims, different circumcises.

              2) I'm not sure. But there shouldn't be any misses. The 5.7 shoots like a 22 right??
              edit: 214 rounds fired
Fired and actually shot are not the same.
I'll try simplify a little.... How many were shot in critical areas and bullet failed and how many were shot in non vital areas, like arm, legs or non critical torso hits?
All this has to be EXACTLY the same for ANY comparison otherwise it a "moot" point. Actually the only point is that 5.7 proved to be quite lethal as there is NO facts anywhere that proves the contrary only BS opinions from ignorant self appointed experts.

              3) Moot. It's been reported that Holmes fired less than 30 rounds from his AR.
No one knows and speculations aren't facts. The number is also 58, 60 etc etc. Since he used a shotgun and few handguns adds even more to the uselessness of an AR-15, right?
Or even combining all the firearms and number of people shot vs killed makes it seem that 5.7 is superior?

I wanted to get one too.
                I think they shoot excellent.
                What a badass little round.
California magazine law made it not worth it to me.
Ammo scarcity and price drove the nail in

Pros: Light weight, accurate, low recoil, high cap ability.
Cons: Expensive, ammo not readily available, not a manly gun to shoot.
Bought one, shot it, sold it. you will either really like it or wonder why so much hype ? It was not for me.

I was looking at the 5.7 for a while but the guns price, availability and cost of ammo topped off by, I couldn't find one for sale any where made me change my mind. A friend of mine owns one and loves it. If you own one and are looking for ammo, here's a source.

I think mag360 is even worse than jessegpresley. I didn't think that could happen. I love people that talk like they know something that in reality they have no clue. Mag, why don't you go out and let someone shoot you a few times with a 5.7 and then report back to us. I will then consider your opinions valid.

That sounds like some b&*# picked up from the internet. There will be plenty of calibers to choose from. If anything the most popular calibers will be the hardest to find. When there are no .45 and 9mm last time around, I always had my .40 to shoot! Buy any 9mm lately? If I can find 7.63 mauser for a broomhandle, you can find whatever ammo you want :P
