I carry empty in the Magwell and two loaded on the hip...

So far nothing new to report ... no more police encounters, only one that had any problems so far was the off duty police officer.

A guy from opencarry.org sent a email to Manteca PD chief, here is the post about it...

Just got an email back from the Cpt. from Manteca.
He essentially tied to justify your stop saying you were doing something unusual... But in the reply... he said the I should understand that when I carry like that in Manteca I'm looking for trouble. And that my posts on calguns (which I don't post on) are of course going to get support like that for what I did... though I didn't mention calguns.

So, word to the wise. LEOs like to think they know what's going on and who they're talking to... but ignore obvious things like my name and your name don't match up, and
they're cruizin the net to see what we have to say about these encounters!

To read betweent he lines, IdahoCorsair who sent the letter to Manteca PD. Manteca PD thinks I sent them the email, and that they know about this thread even though Idaho never mentioned calguns in his email. So MPD is watching the board and other probably. Which is great because I hope all LEOs can learn a little bit more about OC and the laws. I am always open minded about what I can learn from others with my profession. Lets hope all LEOs are too.

I believe there was a picture of that in the "girls with guns" thread.

You know there is a bad side to this... if you live in a liberal area bringing this into the light could sponser the city counsel to pass a city ordinance forbidding it. Do it because its legal... but don't go around with a bullhorn and make it public. The backlash could result in gun laws outlawing it.

Capt., Time to have the troops review the 4th A. and not to exceed the scope of a 12031e (loaded check).
False is the idea of utility that sacrifices a thousand real advantages for one imaginary or trifling inconvenience; that would take fire from men because it burns, and water because one may drown in it; that has no remedy for evils except destruction. The laws that forbid the carrying of arms are laws of such a nature. They disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes.

The bad side is that they'll pass a state pre-empted ordinance? If fear of such a thing should prevent anyone from doing what is legal, it is the same as if the law was already passed.

                  • Wow! Being a resident of Manteca, you have the balls to do that one. Kudos. I know how Manteca PD can be. Its good to see someone exercising their right. And if anything goes down, your only a mag away. It is funny how LEO have a negative view on open carrying. I do believe that you should be proficient with the weapon you carry. Manteca police are not everywhere at every given time. It only takes a second for an armed robbery, murder, car-jacking, assault. I can see how they can be fearful of the public open carrying, but most people whp do are subject to a stop by a LEO and run a quick record check in the database. I can not see a criminal open carrying in public. I have seen Manteca grow worse year by year. I am actually proud of you for carrying. It shows that we, the public, are not afraid of protecting ourselves and that we will not take it anymore. Manteca PD, yes you, you are probably reading this. I hope you acknowledge this act as something positive, it is definitely a symbol of a fed up community and I hope you understand that it is definitely a crime deterrent. Manteca PD, ask yourself, does that criminal who happened to pass by the man who is open carrying on his way to rob an elderly woman know whether or not that person will draw on him, or if that person is a LEO? That old man who is pumping gas with his .44 mag holstered will send a message that he will not take criminal acts anymore? Please remember Manteca PD that open carrying is not a deliberate attempt of anarchy and disrespect to the department at all. It is someone who will potentially save the life of you, your family member, child, friend, if they ever needed it. I know if someone is breaking into my home, Ill send a call to dispatch, in the mean time, I am waiting down my hall with my security shotgun loaded with double ought buckshot. Same goes for protecting my neighbors as well. Sounds like a somewhat successful carry to me 4thSeal!

So if you have any ammo on any part of your body, with an unloaded open-carry pistol, it is illegal?

I think I need to ask the SBSO whether Santa Barbara County has any ordinances regarding definitions of loaded/unloaded...

Anyone know if UCs are considered schools for the purposes of open carrying in a school zone (as far as the 1,000 foot school zone, not carrying on campus)? I talked to a UCPD officer a while ago and he told me that it was just K-12 schools.

Umm... please re-read sir... I said to carry openly... but don't make waves other than that. Don't write your city counselman, your police chief, or your senator. Open carry because it is legal and they have not outlawed it. Don't make such a frenzy that it gets attention from the wrong people. We have the right; don't flaunt it or steps may be taken to have it taken away.
