Shooting Gloves

Gloves? Wimp.

REAL MEN (like a few of the tactical types here) train for HD as realistically as possible:

• A range has to have a layout like their home or it's worthless;
• You can only train with one gun type; you can have multiple instances of that type, but cross-training with a different type will only screw you up;
• No loaders allowed (once you've run through your 20 "re-built" 18-rd mags in a HD firefight, do you really want to re-learn how to load your mags with your bare hands on the fly?);
• No eyes or ears allowed, and you have to train barefoot in the dark in your skivvies.

At least that's what I've been told from those who are from the times when Men were Men, and Giants walked the Earth.

I normally shoot "unprotected" without gloves but on occasion when I'm shooting a lot, it's nice to wear gloves to protect from the hot steel. Anyone who's grabbed a hot barrel will relate!

Antiperspirant will give you dry hands, like the ones you should have when you pull it for SD/HD.

What do you want him to do, smear deodorant all over his hands when something goes bump in the night? Do you shoot without earplugs and eye-pro because you wouldn't use it in an emergency?

Anything more then bare skin on pistol will require something be done in an emergency, and it's all equally unlikely to happen under pressure.

If you want to truly be prepared. Practice every possible situation. That includes gloves, no gloves, wet hands, dirty hands. You could be elbow deep in oil when it needs to happen. Most likely if you need to use a gun you will be unprepared. You could be on the toilet @ 2am when someone kicks in your front door.

I use Trojan non-lubricated condoms on each finger. It provides the protection I need with a natural feel.

I'm a supporter of mechanix.

I have a set of them in my range bag for winter shooting. Can't load mags worth a damn with gloves though

Try Hatch unlined leather search gloves. Very thin and comfortable.

I alternate between several different gloves, or no gloves, depending on what I'm doing.

These (http://oneill.us.com/law_enforcement_gloves.php) are the most dexterous gloves I've ever used. I can do anything with them I can do bare hand, they're comfortable all day long and improve grip in all conditions including water and oil.

I also have a pair of whitewater gloves (http://www.ebay.com/itm/Genuine-Army...item3f1e869d70) that provide a little more protection than the Oneill Maxfits. I bought them at the PX at my last duty station, but they can also be found on ebay.

Don't understand why this is so complicated...

When Things go Bump in the Night (when out on Parole)...

You won't have:

Gloves - So don't train w/ them.
Ear Protection - So train some w/o them.
Eye Protection - So train some w/o them.

- I don't wear gloves when I shoot HD/SD weapons.
- I shoot my carry-mag ammo at the end of the Shoot to ingrain the properties on top of the training ammo and to rotate in fresh ammo.
- I shot that clip w/o eye/ear protection to familiarize myself w/ the actual experience of defensive shooting.

You will have:

Dry hands - so if my hands are a little sweaty at the range, I dry'em and then spray some antiperspirant on them to help keep'em dry.


Almost everybody I shoot w/ does this for HD/SD training.
