I was bein' serious.

For things that go bump in the night (while out on parole) are you goin' to stop and glove up?

Antiperspirant will give you dry hands, like the ones you should have when you pull it for SD/HD.

Clapping-hands does toughen the hands so that they grip better and slip less.


If you are a gated/golf-course community guy and only shoot for sport?

Please, by all means, disregard any and all advice that is tactical in nature.

Take offense too, because how you feel is also important.

I'm on the skateboard/grip tape side. I had the same issues with smooth stocks, stippled them and still had probs.

A little bit of the grip tape goes a long way. I simply cut an elongated piece about 1" wide, fit it to the back-strap area starting at about 1/2" wide and creating a 'dog bone' end extending from the butt to the area that my hand web contacts and what a difference. No slip at all, perfect control and not anywhere that I don't need it. It will wear in time, but lasts quite awhile, then it's easy to replace as you already have the pattern for it from the old one and plenty of tape because it comes in large sheets from the skateboard store. Prolly enough to do 50 guns.

It would prolly work equally well with gloves too if you decide to go that route.

You can't see all of it, but this is what it looks like on my revolver....it will work just as well on a semi tho.

Howdy Gentleman,

I have a question about gloves. My hands tend to sweat and of course when dealing with a firearm I want to have maximum grip.

Can anyone reccommend a good glove? Maybe a particular brand? Preferably the lower the profile the better.

Don't understand why this is so complicated...

When Things go Bump in the Night (when out on Parole)...

You won't have:

Gloves - So don't train w/ them.
Ear Protection - So train some w/o them.
Eye Protection - So train some w/o them.

- I don't wear gloves when I shoot HD/SD weapons.
- I shoot my carry-mag ammo at the end of the Shoot to ingrain the properties on top of the training ammo and to rotate in fresh ammo.
- I shot that clip w/o eye/ear protection to familiarize myself w/ the actual experience of defensive shooting.

You will have:

Dry hands - so if my hands are a little sweaty at the range, I dry'em and then spray some antiperspirant on them to help keep'em dry.


Almost everybody I shoot w/ does this for HD/SD training.

I tried to shoot at the range naked a few times, but they keep telling me to put my clothes on. I mean, that is how I sleep most of the time.

Also, good luck on going to an indoor or outdoor range and not getting yelled at by a RO for not having your eyes and ears on.

What is the #6 rule of gun safety? Something about always wear protection.

If you really do that, how about posting your vid of you actually at the range shooting off a mag with no eyes and ears? Would love to actually see some one prove what they type on these forums are actually true.

I shoot ~ half the time BLM and the rest at a really nice indoor range that pretty much leaves you alone unless you're a dip-sh*t and a danger to others, or some kind of Comedian.

As stated, the Last mag is shot w/o protection. Take off the glasses, pull down the muffs, shoot 6-12 rounds in 6-12 seconds, put the muffs back up, pack your sh*t n' go.

5.11 Taclite gloves are pretty nice. They use a really thin leather keeping a nice trigger feel.

Look, there is a conflict of "Safety" here.

1. Range rules.
2. Tactical preparedness.

Pistols are inherently safe to shoot, Glocks even more so. They were designed specifically as M&P battlefield weapons.

After every trip to the Range, I know exactly how my weapon will handle, including muzzle blast to my ears and pressure wave to the eyes.

If and when I need to employ that weapon, I can expect that experience and focus on what is different - the thing that went bump in the night.

Unless you train this way, you will not.

And unless you have shot this way before, you have no idea how distracting and disorienting a major caliber pistol uncovered is. And you can multiply that by several times if it is in the still of the night in an enclosed space.


Follow the rules that make you feel safe.

I choose to train in a manner that increases my ability to win the fight.

If I may address the original question with my own opinion, I picked up a pair of these on amazon:

I haven't shot with them yet but I'll let you know after this weekend. They are very thin but also offer some good protection. The fingers are padded except the index finger to allow for more feel. The grip is very nice. A pretty cheap investment too ($18 or so). Also, I'm 6'5" so it's tough to buy anything online and have it fit but the XXL fit perfectly.

Our boys' hands sweat some kinda of strange acidic fluid from his pores, makes my old 1911 cringe. The steering wheels of our cars always feel wierd after he drives them, but I can't get him to wear driving gloves around town.

ok srs now, we added one of those little Hogue slip-on things onto our plastic pistol, imo it helps the sweaty bare-hander with their grip. For under $10 it might be worth a try?

The guys that bag on people with gloves have a point, we aren't gonna glove up first in the night. And for sure it's good to scoot around the house a few times in your boxers with your pistol and handheld light at 0330 (when that other guy is on parole?), ready to defend the family. Gloves have their place as mentioned during long training days, perhaps moreso with AR and such. Houw about this...Train with and without. Train day and night. Shoot left and right. Train in wierd poisitions. You guys know all this. Regardless, can't we all just get along.

Those look similar to the duty gloves I mentioned above.

You guys recommending mechanic, workout gloves, Homedepot gloves, etc. really don't have a clue. Don't be offended

I dare you to try a proper fitting duty glove and only then will you understand what the few of us are talking about.
