Shooting Gloves

Howdy Gentleman,

I have a question about gloves. My hands tend to sweat and of course when dealing with a firearm I want to have maximum grip.

Can anyone reccommend a good glove? Maybe a particular brand? Preferably the lower the profile the better.

Im serious. All the ones I see are bulky. Im not looking for padding, Im looking for grip.

Something with a low profile, even without the fingertips would be fine. Just looking for someone to point me in the right direction... maybe a particular material I should lean towards etc.

I know this is the handgun section but regarding the gloves topic. The first time I shot my ar 15 my hands literally were getting burnt when holding the handguard. It's a Troy battle rail so it's metal. Is that normal?? I know that if I had a heavier barrel it would probably make a difference but jeez I never thought it would get as hot as it did.

Oohh, that sucks. that hot huh? Maybe a forward pistol grip will help yah out if you have a BB? The Forened on my SU-16 is composite so it doesnt heat up.

What, less bulky than your own dry skin...?

If you are tryin' to deal w/ a case of p*ssy-hand, that's different.

Use less lube, or clap your hands together repeatedly, really hard, every day, 'till it doesn't hurt to do it any more.


Gloves are a mistake.

It will become manifest when you least expect it, like when you're tryin' to save your life.

Go to Sears tool section and try out the Mechanix glove.

Buy some of that grip powder stuff. If you don't have a bug calloused hump on your middle finger knuckle from your trigger guard you aren't shooting enough.

I like using mechanix with my index finger cut off so I am able to feel the trigger. I just tested with mechanix without the index cut off and I find that to impede my shooting at least with my Glock. Mechanix plus stippling = grip for daysss.

Depending on your firearms, youcan use Talon grip instead of gloves.

Depends on what you are doing. For long days of shooting it can be nice to have a glove on the support hand, esp if you are running an AR or shotgun for extended periods. If you do long strings with an AR, some configurations can get a bit warm, but it really depends how your AR is set up.

You will suffer a bit of loss of manual dexterity, obviously, with gloves on, even fingerless. I found reloading a shotgun with full-fingered gloves to be a bit of a chore... it was much easier to just run without gloves.

For a quick and cheap option that seems common/popular, get a pair of cheap Mechanix gloves in the smallest size that comfortably fit your hands and try them out. You can even get them on Amazon.com.

I haven't tried gloves while shooting but Mechanix gloves seem to be a popular low cost choice.

Well I do have the magpul vertical grip but I try to keep my thumb wrapped over the top of the quad rail to help handle the rifle better and that's where it burns. It's not the biggest deal but it really was a surprise. So was touching the barrel after shooting 200 rounds in 45 minutes lol
