    Question about Calif. Laws

I live in Ct and to buy a pistol I simply present my license and money and then walk out of the store with it (btw, we only have carry permits here).

In looking around this fine site it seems that you folks have a waiting period. Does this period apply if you already own firearms? If so, what is the rationale for such a law? Are there initiative in place to roll back some of the more obnoxious aspects of your laws? It seems Calif. is really out of step.

Feel free to discuss I am really curious.

Welcome. Yes there is a 10 day waiting period, even if you own firearms already. Don't even try to disect the rationale behind CA gun laws, because they make absolutely zero sense. You can thank the coddled idiots who live in this state.

    Love,
    A native Californian.

It is an odd day where a new englander can laugh at a westerner about gun laws.

How did this happen? Was it a UK kind of thing where you woke up faced with new laws? Were they voted on or just passed? Is it an issue during elections?

10 day wait applies to private sales, CCW holders, and police officers unless they get an exemption letter from their chief; however, the 10-day wait does not apply to criminals making illicit purchases.

The rationale is solely to create an additional burden for gun owners. Discussions about the average age of firearms used in crimes being measured in decades are avoided at all times.

Unlike CT, California has devolved into a socialist nanny state ran by anti-gunners. The powers that be in Sacramento would really be much happier if guns were 100% outlawed here, that is their goal and the small little barbs like the Handgun Roster, the HSC, AW Ban, Bullet Buttons and the 10 day waiting period are their way of slowly eroding our rights.

It has been this way for the past 30 years or so, thank goodness for the Calguns Foundation, NRA and CRPA, or our minimal gun rights here would have lapsed years ago.

This right here! Just like how magazine capacity doesn't make sense. Obviously the least dangerous rounds are the first 10 but the ones after that are the killer ones.

Thats right. There is no rational reason for most of the gun laws here.
Basicly what happens is that there are a few hippie vegan tree hugger state assemmbly people who aspire to be like Feinstein or Boxer or Peloci when they're all growed up.
So they eat their veggies, and take their vitamins, and propose dumb laws to make a name for themselves so they can have bigger and brighter futures later on. But there is hope.
Remember in Algebra, we learned that "If A=B & B=C, Then A=C"
So, since people who hate guns don't know anything about guns, and people who write laws restricting guns hate gun, the people who are writing laws restricting guns don't know anything about guns. We have been able to have our OOL's for a LONG time because they poorly wrote the laws. And I think the laws are going to either change or be struck down as unconstitutional one day sooner rather than later.

I know its dumb, but just follow the laws TO THE LETTER and you will be just fine.
Oh, and welcome to the People's Republic of Commiefornia.
The only thing a Non-conformist hates more than a conformist is a non-conformist who doesn't adhere to the standards of non-conformity.

I remember back in High School (or was it Jr. High?) watching Arnold in the Terminator when he walked into the gun store I was struck by the handgun 10 day wait. The script was written probably 30 years ago. Funny how that panty waste Arnold restricted gun rights further.

Our compassionate considerate government provides us with a 'cool down' period that allows us time to further think things through and hopefully change our minds about goin off and killin everybody.

In seriousness though maybe the 10 day wait and 1 handgun a month laws were created to prevent the People from quickly assembling an army. or to prevent impulsive crimes. or to prevent someone from redistributing guns to the blackmark. thats all i could think of but at any rate i doubt any of these reasons were the real reason because the only reason i believe is a political one. The majority of the sheeps that live in this state get scared when they see guns on tv

On the other hand, CA doesn't require anyone to have a license first unless the OP is talking about a CCW license.
