Don't know if anyone mentioned this but...
The style of bullet matters a bit more than the caliber when you are looking at tissue damage. Had he been shooting .40+P+ JHP Rangers then I think it would be a different story. I don't think it is fair to judge a bullet by its caliber, most .40's have more muzzle energy than .45's anyways. FWIW I own .45's
