"RECREATIONAL SHOOTING
The Skeet and Trap Range is located at the 25 Area (Vado Del Rio). It features four ranges. There are two skeet ranges for either American or International Skeet, one range is regularly used for fire-stand sporting clays, and there are two trap ranges. Sixteen yards, doubles, wobble and handicap trap are shot regularly. Guns can be checked out for use on the range. Ammo is for sale and free instruction is available. The hours of operation for the Skeet and Trap Range are Wednesday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. (During winter, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.) and Saturday and Sunday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The Recreational Pistol Range is located in the 33 Area (Margarita) next to Wilcox Pistol Range. Pistols can be rented and ammo and different targets are available for sale, 22 rifles are also allowed. Hours of operation are Saturday and Sunday, 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Both ranges are open for active-duty and retired Military, their families, authorized DoD personnel and authorized guests. Hearing and eye protection are required for all participants and can be provided. We are unable to process credit or debit cards. Checks or cash only please. i thought that firearms werent even allowed on govt property. im definitely intrigued.

I've taken firearms onto Military bases before.

When I was a WWII re-enactor, a few times a year we would have an event held at Camp Roberts. Couple hundred rifles, handguns, semi-MGs and even a Class III dealer came on base for the weekend.

As a regular Joe citizen, can I roll on base to shoot? Or do I need to bring my Retired Marine buddy with me? Or an Active Duty friend?

I've been on base as a civilian, buying some MREs off a guy. Guards at the gate are usually cool if you have some business there. They just don't like the public wandering the base without a purpose.

I'd imagine yoiu just tell them you're there to visit the range. They'll probably check ID and give you directions where to go. If they're feeling authoritative, they'll tell you not to screw around while you're on base, and try to lay on a little intimidation lol.

Just tell them,You have to go see your brother on the base.(prepare to show ID,Car regis,insur)....I still shop at PX with my Expired Military ID...they never check the date anyway...

What the? I deliver there and never knew this, but then again I dont ask. So im GTG with my DOD CAC card .

I learned to shoot on Gov't Property. Best damn ranges and rangemasters ever. Not the above but Fort Ord. My NRA Certs were all done at the various ranges on that base. One oddly enough was on the morter range. I recall asking about the targets so far out. Tanks and other mil vehicles. The pistol and rifle range would ring with the sound of civi guns then every now and then FA would rip off. Got my first intro to full auto weapons there on an MP5 that a nice gentleman let me shoot off a magazine.

Learned to drive on that base too, skiddin and sliddin through the gravel.

Anyways that range is not open to the public, you can be an authorized guest of someone from the base or a guest of a DoD person. That really shouldn't be too hard to make buddies with one of them. Best places to shoot, hands down, besides private property.

Hate to bring back a dead thread but the range reopenes next weekend. I just got off the phone with them and hours will be 1000-330 pm. Saturday and Sunday. If there is not enough intrest it may go to one day. If you need directions let me know.

Thanks, sarge. My dad has a Rapidgate pass because of his work. Would we be allowed to use the range?

I believe he would be an authorized patron but call the number in the first post tomorrow during the day and ask them they can give you a better answer than me.
