I don't think it is a poor analogy, just because they "excel" faster then guns doesn't mean their Diffrent.
Guns started off as a potion of eternal life, to fireworks to "bottle rockets" to flintlock etc etc... You get the point...

What in saying is, gun tech doesn't end with glock. This is how weapons change like it or not, today's gun (could be 1,2,3,4,10 life time) will change and something better will come out and be better then the Glock, for the mean time every gun maker is making similar gun and sooner or later the Glock will be replaced with some other gun.

Id shoot a sling shot before I would buy a Glock!

XD is so great even Glock recommends them. This ad is or was on Glocktalk.

All in good fun. This is a real ad on their webpage. Those that visit the site can confirm. Seriously though do not go off what the internet has to say. Just look at us. You have to try it out for yourself bottom line. Reliability = they are both reliable. Will you be low crawling through swamps and jumping of planes to with no chute to see if the impact messes up your gun? Do you plan on being frozen? Then don't worry about those test. Accuracy = this varies from person to person. If you do your job they will do theirs. They both about the same price give or take a few.

I think we all know who Chuck Taylor is in the Glock Community. This is what he had to say on XDs.
Chuck Taylor's American Small Arms Academy (ASAA) - Taught by a competent, friendly instructional staff with real-world experience, ASAA offers state-of-the-art weapons and tactics training.

Or do what I do. Right now I have a Carbon Fiber framed, titanium slide plasma blaster on Layaway at NASA . The gunsmith that built it is named Marvin Martian, fairly new to the community.

Or could it be Glock is so desperate they allowed XD to place and ad on their page?

I don't know about you but I don't see Burger King ads at McDonalds or vice versa no matter who is hurting.

News flash Genius- GlockTalk is NOT owned by Glock Inc. Its a private business ran in AZ by a man named Eric. So NO, Glock Inc. is not desperate at all.

So then what does it matter who puts an ad where, and who its run by? And thank you sometimes I do consider myself somewhat of a genius.

I'm sorry tbh racing but I just don't think Glock is the best. I think it's one of the best. Along with 1911s, Hi-Powers, HKs and maybe even Berettas. These are guns that have revolutionized handguns and how we perceive them. I think if they were the best everyone and their mother would own one. But what works for one isn't going to work for others. And it's not an issue of safeties, bore axis, sights and such. I think the main issue is the ergonomics. If we can get comfort while achieving the same goal why not take it? There is a reason the Gen4s are popular. The main reason is now you can change the back strap to fit your hand better. Lots of other manufacturers have been doing this and Glock said you know what? We should too. I'm not saying the XD and the M&P are even in the same class, only time will tell. But they are an option, and we love options. We live in an era where we don't only have to accept the black model Ts. Everyone says if it ain't broke don't fix it. True, K.I.S.S. but lets take something so small as a phone they will change one minor thing that doesn't really matter like the color and boom it sells. Why? Because they attracted a whole new group. That's what marketing is all about. Everyone likes the ergos on the XD but hate the higher bore axis or the grip safety. So what do you think will be next? Maybe someone will keep the grip angle of the XD get rid of the grip safety put on a low slide like a Glock with the back strap and grip contours of an M&P. That's just how it goes. No one is telling you Glock sucks or you shouldn't like it. What people are saying is "Hey if you don't like it for whatever reason look over here for a different option".

Here is my take on things. My very fist gun ever was an XD40 back in 2003 when I had turned 21. Took that typical trip to Turners where I was basically fed the "XD is handgun of the year!" spiel. I bet that salesman got his spiff money at the end ofthe month. Who's to blame, I didn't do my research. Had it for a year and after 400 rounds regardless of the shooter, ammo, and with an aftermarket guiderod and spring, every round jammed on the feedramp. I even polished the feedramp, no dice. I never sent it to SA for them to take a look at it and I ended up selling it. A few months later I bought a Sig P220 that I just sold back in October to get what I have now, a Glock 21SF. I couldnt be any happier with my Glock and have shot better groups with my Glock than I have with either my Sig and XD. Even though my Sig never had one hiccup, for some reason I just couldn't say I could truly depend my life on it if need be. It was a beautiful gun none the less, but I certainly don't miss it. I was one of the many who didn't really appreciate Glock's because of how "ugly" they are and how "terrible" the grip angle is on it, but after some serious thought into it, I gave in. Unless its a safe queen, which none of my weapons are, looks are the least of my concern, plus all guns are beautiful to the eye of the beholder. I am more of a utilitarian type of person and a Glock is certainly that.

Perhaps I just got a bum XD, but after my experience I lost complete faith in it. I'm sure SA has worked the bugs out of them but things about SA "warranty" is sure questionable; instead of them sending you a part, they would rather have you send in the entire gun. In my case, SA refused to send me a recoiled spring assembly. With my Glock, I have options of where I can get replacement parts at a great deal (C&R FFL is awesome at Brownells and Midway).

Warranties are great and SA certainly has that going for themselves and it is a major selling and buying point for some consumers. However a warranty doesn't mean crap to me. I know for certain my M1 Garand, my mix master AR's, my LRB and Norinco M14s have no warranty what so ever and I'm not loosing sleep over it.

My thumbs are starting to get sore typing this from my Blackbery so I will end it here. For the newcomers of guns, all I can suggest is that you do your homework, rent some guns, do more homework and then plunk your hard earned green down for what you think will make you happy. I hope this is isn't too biased.

                        Excuse any misspelled words.

Just an FYI, Glocktalk is not affiliated with Glock, INC. In fact they will take advertisement money from most manufacturers I can't believe you went through that much trouble.

For me it was simple. Ergonomics. The Glock didn't feel right in my hand. The XD did. I didn't want to "get used to" the Glock.

I won't change what I like for a woman, I sure as hell won't do it for pistol...

I went through the exact same experience! Got an XD as my first gun, ended up with rounds jamming against the feed ramp. Springfield ground and polished the ramp under warranty (excellent service), but I no longer own the XD. I've gone with Steyr, Glock and M&P instead.

I prefer GLOCK. Its a proven simple design.
THE XD has more parts and things I dont need or want... like a grip safety and extra tab to show the round is in the chamber. Just more stuff to clean and maintain and something that might cause a problem.

Glad you like your XD's and M&Ps... They have better ergos for sure...
But I won't ever own one when the original Glock works so well..
                                To that end;
I still think the Glock 17 is all the Glock you will ever need and it's still for me the best Glock ever!

Then again I prefer a fixed blade over a Folder anyday... Simple Works.
