So, I have a Glock 19 and absolutely love it. I hear alot of talk about the XD. It seems like most people are either a "Glock person" or an "XD person." I just wanted to know the main differences between the guns???

main differences between glock and xd

Grip safety, grip angle. There's way more than this, and I don't own either of those guns but I only know of those two major differences. -
grip angle is the biggest one. with a good trigger kit, the XD can get a lighter pull if your in it for a competition gun.
Its really a which feels better thing. I prefer the feel of my XD over a glock, nothing against them, just wasnt for me.Sandstorm Custom Rifle Slings : Custom Paracord slings

Springfield will tell you the XD is more like a 1911 than a glock.....I really dont know, as I am not a firearms engineer....I prefer mine because of the grip angle and the feel. 500 rounds and I shoot it better than a p226, which used to be my favorite weapon."Always do right. I agree 100%
One is a PROVEN combat masterpiece made in a 1st world country that has been free since WWII and has modern technological equipment/knowledge and experienced engineering. (Austria). The other gun is CURRENTLY made in a former socialist run European country that was really a "2.5 world" nieghbor to the Soviet Union (aka: Croatia, which split from Austria about 100 years ago.....BIG MISTAKE) up until about a decade ago. It just has a fancy and popular label on the gun now, called "Springfield."
I'd bet anyone, that if the XD didn't have the "Springfield" label on it, sales would be really really low! Nobody would buy a "Croatiafield" now, would they?
Buy something that works. Why fix something that ain't broke? Glocks just work.

I had the XD45 and really wanted to like it but there just was n't any "Love Connection"
Everyone BUT me could shoot it accurately
So I sold it to fund an addition to my collection of true love(s) Another 1911!
ps I also own several Glocks--Ilike 'em a lot!sigpicNRA Benefactor MemberComment

As you can see, glock/xd is like ford/chevy.
I am not one of those guys overly loyal to one or the other.
I have had and have a variety of glocks, and just bought my first xd. On a day to day basis (ie normal duty) the biggest difference is ergonomics, especially, as everybody has said, grip angle. I don't care for that grip safety on the XD.
Both are good shooters, reliable guns, and quite rugged. Glock has built a reputation of being extra tough.
If I were to pick one as my only handgun for an expedition in the middle of nowehre, I would pick a glock, just because I know it will fire. I am pretty sure an xd would fire too, but I can't be as certain. Of course, if I had more choices, I would probably pick neither.------------------------

Try a 4th gen Glock now.... You can swap out the back grip strap thing to a smaller one. Then again, my 12 year old daughter shoots her very own Glock 19 with ease at the 15 yard line.
Then again, I'm not sure if the new 4th gen's are approved yet in Kali..... I'm too lazy at the moment to look on the DOJ website...Last edited by TrailerparkTrash; 12-15-2010, 12:19 AM.sigpic

I would say the main differences are grip angle, bore axis, trigger pull, and grip safety. I own an XD 45 Tactical and various Glocks, and all have been superbly accurate and reliable for me. In that regard, how they're similar is far more important than how they differ.
Being somewhat particular about my pistols, however, the differences listed above do play into my preference for Glocks. For me, the Glock has a better grip angle, bore axis, and trigger pull (namely in the short and positive reset department), while the grip safety is a "meh" proposition for me (don't hate it, don't love it).
My opinion, anyways.
