Is this post serious? Most people already know what they can and can't have. The people who start these kinds of threads are just looking for a way to justify themselves doing something illegal. I'd like to see these kinds of threads dissapear myself.Nobody said anything about committing a crime. The only threads I have seen regarding these issues have been discussions about how to follow the law, or how to do something legal. It is perfectly legal to import rebuild kits, as we all know, so how is that thinly veiled? If you are claiming to know that someone is importing rebuild kits to break the law, or is intending to do something else illegal with high cap magazines, unless they SAY that is what they are doing, you are claiming to see into their hearts. And that is wrong.Comment

Then I guess the threads doing so have been deleted before you had a chance to view them.
The veneer that some posters are putting over their illicit activities (if any obstruction is present) is rice paper thin. I'm reminded of one elitist teenager ex-member who "found" a box of the newest generation Glock magazines under his bed, which his grandpa left him ten years ago (before those magazine generations were even in production)
It's not humerous, it's not clever, it's not cute; it makes all firearm owners and Calgunners look bad.Last edited by leelaw; 11-12-2010, 2:10 AM.Comment

As Leelaw said, it is every bit our business. Especially when you guys insist on posting about it and it's completely obvious that they're not legal. Once a week there's a "look what I found in a box in my garage" thread, and most of the time those are just poorly veiled attempts to show off newly purchased hicaps. It may be your business, but it is illegal, and it goes against the core principles of this forum. It's also obnoxious.
If some of you guys want to break the law because you're too lazy to reload, fine, but stop posting about it here. And you guys that have them legally, awesome, congratulations, but you should be over it by now. We don't need daily threads devoted specifically to your mags.
LOL. Claiming to see into their hearts. Not so much. When we're talking about 18-24 year old guys posting threads to show off their hicap AR mags and high cap pistol mags for things like XDs that didn't exist before the magazine ban... there is no need to be able to see into someone's heart to understand that they broke the law.
Well Im 21 and I have a HiCap Glock mag I found on the floor yes on the floor

outside the shooting range in corona (I dont even have a glock)
So for you to Assume that I broke the law to obtain it is just plain wrong and I think it makes you a bit simple minded, and with all the post that have been coming up who knows if people have had/found/rebuilt there mags, I know that i found mine, people do drop things (by accident)WTB M38 mosin

+1.. I keep reading people tell others to "KEEP YOUR MOUTH SHUT" and they can't prove anything.
really? Go commit a crime and keep your mouth shut.
What is so special about hi-cap? It is just a waste of ammo. I won't even load more than six rounds in my mags at the range and yes....I own a bunch of hi-cap mags.

Look, I see what you are saying, and no doubt some people have done things in this regard that are illegal. No one is claiming that they haven't. But the fact of the matter is that you don't know in all cases. Especially in most of the recent cases I have seen where no one is making any claim at all as far as how they came to have high caps. Most of the recent threads have simply been about "How can I get rebuild kits? Who has them?" And you come out and make a broad statement about these kind of things which is plain wrong. It seems like the unfortunate trend is for you, and some other people, to claim that every thread about rebuild kits is by someone wanting to break the law. You are claiming to want to moderate threads which have claimed no illegal activity because you "feel" like they are doing something wrong. Like I said, you are claiming to see into their hearts, and that is still wrong. Then I guess the threads doing so have been deleted before you had a chance to view them.

Sorry bud. No matter how much you might not like it, the vast majority of these threads are claiming nothing illegal. No matter how much it might offend your sensibilities people CAN have high cap mags in this state. So much for innocent until proven guilty.+1.. Wow. Since you seem to like using the word "you" I hope you won't find issue if I do the same.Look, I see what you are saying, and no doubt some people have done things in this regard that are illegal. You have missed the point. You have stated that none of the threads that you see contain any illegal activity. You have missed out on a lot of LCM threads where illicit activity has indeed been posted. I pointed this out, and this is your response. If you've just happened to miss the many, many threads where the topic of LCMs either began with an illicit premise, or spiraled into one, then you'll just happen to stick around to see the next one, since the old ones won't be resurrected.
Uh, no. I did not say that, you are saying that I said that. All I have stated is that when illicit activities are discussed or veneered, then those posts and/or threads become my business and are handled accordingly. If you read into that, then.. well:And you come out and make a broad statement about these kind of things which is plain wrong. It seems like the unfortunate trend is for you, and some other people, to claim that every thread about rebuild kits is by someone wanting to break the law.
Cite this. You are claiming to want to moderate threads which have claimed no illegal activity because you "feel" like they are doing something wrong. Like I said, you are claiming to see into their hearts, and that is still wrong.
You are either "claiming to see into [my] heart" or you're just wrong.Comment

leelaw,
I'm only saying this based off of what you have said in this topic. One of the responder made a statement that it is none of the OP business concerning high caps, and you responded that it was YOUR business. I don't want to get too wrapped around the axle on this, but if you and I had a misunderstanding about what you or I meant, then that's too bad. BUT, he quoted two people, one saying this.
"looking for some g17 mags, can anyone confirm that CDNN will disassemble mags for legal sale to CA, or do they fall under the "NO HI-CAPS TO CA" camp."
and the other, this...
"Even if it has the 17rnd mags can he take them apart and ship it to my FFL???"
and then said HOW OBVIOUS CAN YOU GET?
This is what I take issue with. Neither of these people are quoted as saying anything even remotely hinting at illegal activities. But still, he and it seemed like you, were too willing to jump on the bandwagon together and claim that these people, and others are doing something illegal. I can't even fathom that. It seems like a severe lack of judgment. What do you mean my birth certificate expired?Comment

Actually, many HAVE said as much in the 'So I can get rebuild kits for my new XXXX' threads that have been deleted for soliciting illegal activity.
AND YES IT IS MY BUSINESS.
If someone wants to advertise that they are breaking the law or ask for or give advice on how to break the law that puts this forum in jeopardy and I am NOT going to let CGN get shut down because someone wants to be clever and cute.[/b]
See above.Really? Never seen one lately. In fact I can't remember seeing one at all.
I have, regularly.
The reason you have a hard time finding them is because they are removed when seen.
Again, too many people have invested incredible amounts of time, effort and funds in to making CGN what it is. Risking losing it all because someone feels they can game the system is not going to happen.
So until someone comes out and says they are doing something illegal you have no grounds to complain that they are a detriment to the community here.
And let's not be clever here, someone posting now about getting a XD9 as their first handgun and asking about rebuild kits IS saying they are trying to do something illegal.
Sorry, we're just not THAT stupid as to not understand that.
And YES, I've seen that exact example posted here.
Sure, I can send you the links.
Of course since the threads are deleted they will be meaningless to you.
Unfortunately often times very little assumption is necessary and when it is necessary to make a judgment call that's part of a Mod's job is.
And this clever little comment is exactly what causes threads like this to be made.
The implication that the smart ones know how to get away with breaking the law and that if people quit making noise about it they can continue to do so.

Again, I'm not saying that people who are obviously doing something illegal shouldn't be banned, or have their threads deleted, or whatever you guys do. What I AM saying is that the two examples the OP gave were not that, and he has no grounds to call for an end to the discussion of high cap magazines. What we have here is a failure to communicate. You are arguing things I'm not denying, and I am making points about things you haven't commented on. So this is going nowhere. You (kestryll) and I are having conversations about two separate topics and are futiley trying to turn them into one. What do you mean my birth certificate expired?Comment

What you, as a moderator, ought to be able to understand by looking at this in a objective way is that is not what is happening. Yes, I agree with you, people turning this place into a den of illegal activity would be bad. However the people the OP cited were not doing anything wrong. Suggestions that they were is wrong. You may have a point to prove about all the other threads you have seen in the past, but now is not the time to make it. We are talking about the completely LEGAL acquisition of rebuild kits, which apparently offends the OP. If he wants to claim that it was "obvious" they were lying, which, if you read their posts I think you will agree it is not, then that is uncalled for. What do you mean my birth certificate expired?Comment

That's a nice little bit of prejudgment, I bet you do that all the time, daily in fact. I also like how your brain took what I asked, a question surrounding a legal activity (SB12020 (c)(25)(A)), and made implications that I was attempting to break a law.
Maybe you are wrong? maybe you shouldn't concern yourself with my and others legal attempts to obtain affordable glock mags. maybe you should focus on matters that pertain to you and not make accusations, because it's not your job and its downright rude.

What I as the Owner understand is that YES IT IS HAPPENING.
I just had to send a PM to a guy in L.A. who was offering his S&W M&P with hi-cap mags for sale.
Think about that for a minute.
Yeah, that's right, the S&W M&P came out AFTER the ban was in place so there is no legal way short of playing 'oops, I found this on the ground' games or buying rebuild kits and making new hi-caps.
No, he does not say anywhere that he is an LEO or that the mags are only for sale to an LEO so let's not play that game.
Yes, it happens here, yes I have read and deleted posts from members talking about how to get hi-caps in CA or posting pictures of their Ruger SR9 with full capacity mags.
We're NOT talking about legal acquisition of magazines, we're talking about people trying to play clever little games and fast and loose with the law that is going to result in both CGN having legal issues as a venue that allows this and new laws banning rebuild kits.NRA Benefactor Life Member / CRPA Life Member / SAF Life Member
