Ok, show me that thread. I've never seen it. Can you show it to me? Is it really there? Besides, even if it were, there are still legal ways for that person to have it. I don't care how unlikely YOU think it is. Unless you KNOW that they broke the law you have no ground to stand on.

Leelaw I can see where you may think I am wrong, but I'm going to reaffirm what OneSevenDeuce said since I didn't have an earlier chance to respond to your post. I think people are quick to jump onto the "citizens on patrol" bandwagon where they have to announce to the world what they saw. It's one thing when an OP asks about the legality of H/C magazines, which I think is wonder as it contributes to good information on this forum. When I say that it is probably none of the OP's business is when someone comes out saying, "I saw so and so with h/c magazines, or why are people talking about h/c magazines, or why are there so many threads on h/c magazines...." Good observation on his part, I noticed that too, but it's like me going to complain to CHP or my local police about all the illegal things I see people doing on the street. What I also don't care for is when people like the OP and perhaps you, Leelaw, is assume that people are partaking in illegal activity.
Leelaw or the Op, if you have any problem with what I have said, again I don't mean to offend anyone, but feel free to PM me directly and we can talk about it later.Comment

Not possible for someone to just automatically know the new/updated laws without asking, being taught, etc. I've had my pre-bans for years on end, but didn't think twice about them until I started frequenting this website.
However, for lack of better judgment, many of these threads/posters seem a bit fishy. I like to give them the benefit of the doubt and be helpful, but if it walks like a duck...

I've technically given my kids (1 and 4 years old) some assorted mags already (some 10-rounders but mostly various rebuild kits). Took a few pics and put it in writing, etc. I figure by the time they're old enough, laws might become that much worse! Call me a pessimist, but I figured it wouldn't hurt, since they are extra mags lying around and whatnot! Kind of a joke to me, but still did it none the less LOL!

I agree 100%. You pretty much summed up my position on the matter. It's simple audacity to presume anything about someone in possession of high capacity magazines no matter how fishy it might seem to you. I prefer to assume innocence before guilt.Ok, show me that thread. I've never seen it. Can you show it to me? Is it really there? Nothing wrong with that... My father gave me a number of hi-caps when I was younger, because he gave me an old Ruger 10/22. A 25rd, a 50rd and a few oddball banana mags that clip in kinda wierd with their own plate. I haven't been able to find a rebuild kit for the last ones, and they kinda need it. So does my 50, but thats gotta wait a while.I've technically given my kids (1 and 4 years old) some assorted mags already (some 10-rounders but mostly various rebuild kits). That would be fun, but since it's been left at a location with the coordinates given... wouldn't that be considered a gift? Anonymous gift, but still... problem area. If it weren't geocached, then finding it would be OK, but because the location is given, and the basic premise behind geocaching is anonyous gifting/regifting, then i think there could be some issues.Originally posted by greasemonkey1911's instill fairy dust in the bullets, making them more deadly.Comment

I think it's much less that anyone assumes illegal activity than it is many posts are poorly worded such that that assumption is not irrational.
I'll give you my pet peeve on magazines: the 'find them' meme.
Start from what the law says: it is NOT ILLEGAL to own, possess or use large-capacity magazines.
Then, no law says anyone must keep records on magazine purchases, parts purchases, or repairs.
Since the above two statements are true, for practical purposes, the only way one could get in legal trouble with large-capacity magazines is talking about any illegal way one got them.
I put this on the Wiki yesterday:Several members, I am sure truthfully, have related stories where they indeed found some large-capacity magazines. I'm sure it happens, sometimes. What if I "find" some large-capacity magazines?
It is not illegal to possess and use large-capacity magazines. You do not have to document or discuss how you acquired them.
An analogy: Suppose you were six years old and brought home a tricycle. Your father might ask, "where did you get that tricycle?". You might reply, "I found it!". Would you really expect your father to believe that?
* Please do not strain the credulity of your listeners.
But making the correct observation that it is not illegal to find them almost always has the 'wink, wink, nudge, nudge', 'if you are clever you can get around this stupid law' vibe.
Nobody here is six years old. Nobody needs to invent stories, when 'the right to remain silent' will suffice.ARCHIVED Calguns Foundation Wiki here: http://web.archive.org/web/201908310...itle=Main_Page

YEP.Maybe it's none of your business. People are going to do whatever they want to do regardless of what the law is, and regardless of how much people b**ch and complain. Not trying to be a jerk, and I'm sorry if you took offense, but seriously, this thread is almost as bad as the weekly "I saw someone with an illegal AR at the range today."
Couldn't have said it better myself!
WOW, did the meaning of "Maybe it's none of your business" go WAY over someone's head! Using CalGuns to "help the commission of a crime."....Geeeez

If everybody would just STFU about the whole subject, we'd ALL be better off! The stupid ones here would simply get busted. The smart ones here would.....well, they would just go on enjoying life.

High cap threads keep popping up because:
1) FUD is still going around that they are illegal to own/use period, even coming from the occasional LEO or gun shop
2) The law is written so weakly you'd practically have to inform the police of the crime to be prosecuted, which tempts some people
3) The law allows purchase of high cap parts but not mags, so only the law abiding are affected while the law breaking still get unrestricted access to high caps, which is fundamentally unfair and serves no legitimate purpose. Its like if CA said all cars have to have a governor installed limiting speed to 40 MPH, unless you've already gotten a speeding ticket over 90MPHLast edited by stix213; 11-11-2010, 3:16 PM.Comment

Every mall ninja needs a few "rebuild" kits for their "non existent preban" magazines. Don't ask, don't tell and definitely don't worry, you're secret is safe with me.
