Are there advantages to having a pistol that uses single stack mags?

Back when magazine fed pistols were new, single stacks were probably more reliable, but I think now its all equal in reliability (look at Glock).
Some people want single stack either for easier concealment or because they prefer thin grips due to either wanting higher degree of index (your fingers naturally point at the object) or because their hands are small.
Unfortunately most 9mm models are obsessed with capacity so pistols become fat and uncomfortable (92FS for example). I have smaller hands than average and prefer shooting single stack .45s (1911, P220) over big 9mms.
I dont need to add any more the single stack list because its covered above but don't discount CZ-75. They are not single stack but they are slim and comfortable if you're used to single stacks.Last edited by bryan28; 05-06-2010, 2:14 AM.Comment

I have a P239 and if I was carrying concealed, it is what I would be carrying. Great shooter, very concealable and extended ten round mags are available for bigger handed people, like me.
+1 also to the S&W 39 series. I've owned examples in all three generations and there are choices to fit any need from full size down to compact.

So this is a pic of the k9 I purchased. I am still waiting for the ten days before I pick it up. You may have seen it on calguns before thats because I purchased it from yzernie. I highly recommend doing business with him. He has alot of hard to find pistols . Hard to find where I live at least. All they have is the most cheap and popular pistols in my area. Seems like everyone is into polymer now. I do have a couple of glocks that I really like and would trust my life with but I wanted something with weight on it kind of like the guns my father shot. I do have small hands not girl small but when I held this k9 it just felt like it was made for me plus the quality was there. I will be back with a range report soon.Last edited by J&B; 05-10-2010, 5:57 PM.CARDIFF GIANTComment

I Agree the S&W 3913 or 3914... Here is a pic of mine Lighter weight than a 239 thinner and better balance IMHO. My favorite thin 9mm

SIG 239 Or P6/225 Here is my p6 with my glock 36 both single stack.

Or get a Browning Hi Power.... Single action .. Sure double stack but very thin grip. You would be amazed at quality and ease of use and carry...

Where can one get a 3913tsw these days?Empty your mind, be formless. Shapeless, like water. If you put water into a cup, it becomes the cup. You put water into a bottle and it becomes the bottle. You put it in a teapot it becomes the teapot. Now, water can flow or it can crash. Be water my friend.Comment

Thanks for the heads up. BTW i have never discounted the CZ75! I recently bought my first pistol (own several rifles and shotguns) and really wanted a CZ 75 to be it.....i figured id support someone on calguns and at the same time get a great deal. I didnt find a CZ 75, but got one of those Sig p226 for a killer priceBack when magazine fed pistols were new, single stacks were probably more reliable, but I think now its all equal in reliability (look at Glock).

Depends which one, the old version or the recent version?
Old version has 7 rds mag and its frame is somewhat chopped at the mag well. The recent version is just like a regular 3913 with rails.
Either one is difficult to find. SW series 39xx pistols are not exactly easy to find BNIB as S&W is no longer offering them to civvies, only to LEO on special orders. The best bet is to find used ones. Also, the Roster list only shows the 3913 LadySmith, 3913TSW, 908 (an economy version of 3913) and CS9 (an even smaller and chopped off version of the 908).
Good luck in finding one as I am looking for another CS9.They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety.

The irony is that for being the first double stack 9 and a 70+ yrs old design, its grip can be just as thick as many single stacks (if not thinner) when you use aftermarket thin grips like Spegel or Micarta. They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety.
