S&W 3913TSW has my vote. I seldom shoot it, but every time I do, it amazes me how well it runs and how accurate it is. The wife shot it at a two day defensive class (800 rounds) and it ran perfect.

Kahr K9 , Kahr T9, Kahr MK9...get used to the long, but very light, trigger pull then it's a joy to shoot, and it's very accurate too

SW Mod 39, 915, 469, 59, Sigma, and the infamous 4006.

Failures to extract, failures to eject, failures to feed, overall poor reliability, poor design of takedown and reassembly, bad trigger pulls, poor ergonomics (with the exception of the 39).

Overall a poor experience that keeps me away from metal SW semi-autos (and the Sigma series, though they're polymer framed.)

The M&Ps are much, much better, but this thread is about non-polymer pistols, so I presumed they were excluded from the discussion.

I really do enjoy the P6/P225. My only complaint about this slim single stack 9mm is that it only holds 8rds.

The P6 is a great gun, I keep passing up opportunities to buy them, and kicking myself right after.

Beyond that 9mm will still kill something just as dead, but even reloading my own, .40 is about 1/3 more money than 9mm. So where I mite shoot 200 rounds of .40 in a range trip, I can shoot 300 9mm for the same money or about 120-140 .45s. That really adds up over a couple dozen range trips. I have no doubt that I'm a far better shooter because I chose 9mm first and was able to put thousands more rounds down range as a result.

I've only owned and shot (only 3rd Generation) SW mod 3913, CS9, 6906, 4506 and 4516 and did not experience most of these issues. The only issue that I agree is poor design of takedown (at times, it's hard to push that pin) and reassembly (a somewhat PITA). Currently, I own a CS9 and a 6906.

I love the metal frame S&W semiautos that I am looking for another CS9 as it has been 100% reliable for me. I even sold my P6 to get my current CS9 as it was not comfortable for me to shoot and it was just as big and thick as the P228/P229. I could've gotten a P239 instead, but the price and size of the CS9 was too hard to turn down.

So today I got to try out the sig 226 I know its not a single stack but a freind of a freind took it to the range so I put a couple of rounds through it. Gotta say I was impressed the pistol felt good in my hands good quality Im not the best shot still working on that but the owner did an awsome job with it. Now its time to try a kahr k9 if anybody knows of a range that has one for rent please let me know thanks.
