Red dot question.

i am a sig owner, so obviously that skews my choice.
the only handgun i own that is not in this picture is my original p226 bought in 1992.

one is a frankenstein p229 enhanced elite that is as close to a legion as i could build with the xray3 sights and g10 grips (or the rx slide). notice i ditched the original slide with the lci, lol.

the other is the p226 legion i bought (used) to replace the original p226. of course i paid way more than msrp...and i bought the rx slide later like the other.

notice one has a surefire wl while the other has the less expensive copy (bought before the virus) and it was only stuck on there for the picture.

i am certain that there are "better" red dot for pistols now, but these work fine.

I would also vote for a P226 Legion RXP, P229 Legion RXP or a p320 AXG scorpion with sig Romeo 1 Pro.

When people go for smaller dot for precision, what precision are we really talking about?

For example, with a DPP at 2.5MOA - at 25-yards, that is like what? Less than an inch? The majority of shooters can't even hold less than 5-inch groups slow fire at 25-yards...

In the event we are shooting targets out to 240-yards? A 5MOA (13-inches at 240#) dot can still make contact with a human-sized steel silhouette.


While my own match pistol Glock 34 Gen 5 uses the SRO's 5MOA dot, my wife's Glock 19 Gen 3 uses the Holosun's 8MOA circle reticle - at 25-yards, this is more than sufficient for a 4-inch headshot (8MOA at 25# is about 2-inches)...

I recently took it through its paces (shakedown) to see if the larger MOA would be a disadvantage... Apparently not... Head shots... 6-inch steels at 15+ yards... Reduced center mass target between non-threats...




So, again - why are we pursuing a smaller dot for non-Bullseye shooting?

Has anyone tried the Trijicon RMR dual illuminated dots using fiber optics and tritium rather than battery for the dot? They have an amber option. It looks cool, but I don’t know how it works compared to a LED powered dot.

Ditch it! It's unreliable, especially in rapidly changing light conditions, those that may happen in defense scenarios. You get what you pay for!

My buddy bought one. We tried it out and found that when in low light, looking out towards brighter/daylight the reticle completely disappears. So, while we looked out from the garage to the street during the day it was pretty much unusable..

Also, that other stuff isn't as bulletproof as it's legend. Plenty of cases of RMR's going tits-up, besides all it's faults.

If someone else is buying, why not? I'd like to try them out. If it turns out that I don't like the combo, easy sell and money for more Glocks.

I do. I was there on 3/14 and usually shoot twice a month with squad 4. I think I'm only one of 2 that run a Beretta on CA-IDPA.

A man of good taste! When I was looking at their California custom program (the express gunsmithing thing) early in covid, I was was gravitating towards the fire hawk.... And I also "need" a railed 1911...damn two more guns to go. lol

I did this CA express thing Just because everyone needs an integrally compensated 1911 in 9mm.......right???? Plus, it is a small FU to the roster, albeit an expensive one. Pics when it comes in.
