    Stupid Desert Eagle Question

    Hi everyone.
Just to put it out there... if you like your DEagle, you can keep your Deagle!
Every time I've handled one (in the store - I've never found one to rent so don't know the kick) it's just so heavy I can't see getting one. I have no need for a pistol, revolver, etc. Deagle just looks cool. So I keep thinking maybe I should get one. I'm pretty sure I'll regret it but it looks so cool I keep thinking about it.

There is another thread right now about Deagles, and it always gets me thinking about getting one.

If I were to get one, it seems like they are very expensive to shoot (50AE), and I might think about getting a 44 mag which I would guess is both a lot less expensive but also less painful to shoot.

    Any thoughts?

I think the most common recommendation would be don't waste your time or money. But any thoughts?

    Thanks!
    Keith

And hats off to Jay Santos. You are an American Hero, sir.

I think you'll regret this decision. Start out your handgun career with something more manageable and practical. These things are just range toys and show off pieces.

I already have a revolver, pistol, and just acquired a Glock 34. So I'm all set for practical handguns.

The weight of the eagle take up a lot of the shock and has a louder report than a smith wesson 500 in a 8 in barrel and cost per round for 50ae is more expensive than smith 500mag
          Desert eagle
Not a very practical gun, never the less fun with a huge fire ball ,bang and a price

as for my 500 Smith & Wesson ballistics are better, accuracy better cost less = better shooters value....

Do you have a good quality .22 pistol? Take a look at the S&W model 41. Everyone needs a high quality .22 pistol.

I really like mine its a great Firearm . Like with most guns , It's all in the technique of the shooting if the Desert Eagle is a Jam omatic or not . It is big and heavy . But people do carry them as woods, back country or as pilots . They can be changed between Calibers 44 mag and 50Ae very quickly . They are extremely accurate. And my oldest son who is 6ft 150 lbs soaking wet has no problem handling and shooting My Desert Eagle IN 50A.e. The main problem . When I see people Shooting a Desert Eagle is the treat it like a 9mm . Your body can not absorb the recoil . With a Desert Eagle you plant your feet and lean into it like your shooting a Large Caliber Rifle . If you rock back or Treat it like a Revolver and allow it to recoil the barrel to the sky it will Jam or double Feed .

Ah, I see. You tend to buy a lot of things you don't need then. You'll probably love it. Carry on.

Get the .44mag first, as it's on Roster, so no premium and cheaper ammo. If you shoot it and feel it's too light kick later, you can buy conversion kits to upgrade to .50AE.

I think the intention of the comment is clear but just to say it explicitly -
I expected the first comment to be "Don't get a DE - that's a range toy. Get a XXX" where XXX is revolver, pistol, or something practical. Thus I started the conversation I have no need of a revolver, pistol, etc. because I already have what I need. I have no plans to purchase another revolver, pistol, etc because I think my needs are currently satisfactorily met. Thus it is not a "buy DE or buy something else." It is "buy DE or don't buy DE." Is it fun enough to justify? Is it worth buying in .44Mag? .50AE is both expensive and has a big kick (so I've been told). So would it be better in .44Mag? Or would you only buy .50AE? Or should I buy it at all?

My Uncle has one but he's in the free state of MI and I don't there often. I've not yet found one for rent at the local ranges in the Valley.

.50 AE DEAGLE is soft as a LAMB compared to

.500 SMITH W. and 454 Cassull 2 inch (damn painful)

.50AE is on sale at marketplace forum $1400.
                          Buy DE!
if you sell at $1300 after several range trip, you just pay $35 PPT + Ammo + $100.

The Desert Eagle is a stupid gun to own. It's loud, heavy, not truly reliable in .44Mag (although mine seems to be "wearing in" after a couple hundred rounds), ammo is expensive. The bottom of the slide is serrated, which means it'll slice into your hand if you have a high grip and meaty hands.

It's also about the must fun gun you can own. I put a few rounds through it every time I go shooting.

Yes, you CAN fit a case of shotgun shells into a .50cal ammo can.

I think i found an optimal solution for ammo can labeling.

I made this target for the NRA's Marksman pistol test. I think it's a lot better than the paper plate they suggest.

I have one. Very picky w ammo. I have the 44 mag and .50 AE barrels. Why did I buy it? Because it’s cool. Not for the accuracy, weight, or practical use. Just for a conversation starter. Kick isn’t bad. It weighs almost 5lbs so it absorbs some of the recoil. A novelty is what it is and I don’t regret buying it. Then again, I a afford to spend the $$ for something that is gonna sit in the safe most of the time. Buy other handguns first. Then save $ for something like a deagle.
