I refuse to call them that. It just sounds wrong. Also, why do people keep saying 500 S&W ammo is cheaper than 50AE? I buy 50AE for around $0.86 per round in 250 round bulk packs. Where are you guys shopping?

Agree with stopping the stupidity of calling the Desert Eagle that stupid nickname. I have a Mark I in .357; it's fun to shoot, turns full-house 158 grain .357 loads into creampuff loads and is plenty accurate. It is, however, a brick... if I had to use it in a fight, it would more likely to be as a club since one would have to have gorilla thumbs to reach the safety under stress. If I hadn't found one for under $700 in a Cabelas Gun Library, I wouldn't have one as otherwise I just couldn't justify the price everyone wants for them.

To cut to the chase, OP, if you want one for a range toy, buy one. But don't pretend it's something it's not and never... NEVER call it that stupid nickname!
I'm retired. That's right, retired. I don't want to hear about the cop who stopped you today or how you didn't think you should get a ticket. That just makes me grumpy!

I replaced my extractor spring with an actual spring, dunno what that plastic crap was doing in the gun, and it runs like a champ now, but when it was a jamomatic brick chambered in 44 mag I still couldn't dream of parting with it, it's just a cool gun, tames magnum loads and it's pretty accurate to boot, although as others have said ergonomics were not taken into consideration when designing the pistol.

If you wanna get slapped around a little, just get a nice revolver - .454 Casull or .44 Mag wouldn’t be unreasonable

(Maybe I’m old, but is that a CoD nickname or sumthin?)

                Go for it!

The .44 Mag is fun to shoot and no problems. I wear Medium gloves and 135lb.
The grip is a bit larger than the Sig 226 and smaller than an Encore.
Recoil isn't bad because it's heavy.

The 50AE just sits in the safe. Too expensive to shoot and don't shoot enough to buy in bulk.

I used the older IMI spring, seems pretty sturdy like it'll last me quite a few years compared to the polymer. Are you shooting 44 also?

I have had several, down to one now. I have had a .41, .44, 41/357, and of all of them the .357 is hands down the best.
The 41/357 was a custom and drew the most attention that I didn't want.
I am perfectly content with my manhood size

If you get into reloading, it will make ownership a lot more economical. Some factory ammo is not loaded to the level needed to reliably cycle the action. By loading your own ammo you can tailor it for the weapon. I’ve experience a lot less trouble with my own handloads than what others have written about.

Desert Eagles are a high performance platform that needs a lot of maintenance. They’re never not like a Glock where you just shoot them for 1000’s of rounds w/o cleaning. I detail clean mine after EVERY session regardless of the number of rounds (max is 200 for me). I’ve shot my gun about 3000 rounds and changed the recoil springs (4) times. Do the reseach and you’ll find a lot of info outhere.

That being said, It may be one of the reasons why I see Desert Eagles for Sale often as dont shoot them often enough because the factory ammo is too $$$ or people have had a hard time finding the right ammo and tired of dealing with malfunctions.
And if if are just starting to reload, full power .44 magnum shells are not my recommendation to begin with. Load for 9mm, 45, or 38special 1st.

The fact that you call it a Deagle means you should totally buy one.

Yes! I shoot 180 JHPs and 240 JSPs and also JHPs. AA9 and W296 are excellent powders with large pistol magnum primers.

I use factory ammo for the Desert Eagle then reload it for my 629, been using alliant 2400 with cci large pistol primers and plated bullets, and load them so their velocity is somewhere between 44 special and mag. Accurate is kinda hard to come by where I get my powder, but I'd like to try w296 sometime. Do you load 300 blackout by chance?
