Suffice it to say that a hundred and some years later, the best of the best of all new hand gun creations are still compared to a 1911 and all the genius new gun makers have not come up with something that can match a 1911. It seems like as time passes and more people receive MBA degrees, they are loosing touch with high quality and think injection molding is the solution to all gun making problems.
Comparing a Glock or any of the poly guns to a 1911 is like comparing a donkey to a Quarter Horse. One can never be the other.
Time to lay off the Wild Turkey playa!!!!sigpic

Nice. I was a Glock guy for years till my buddy let me shoot his SS Colt Government. I never knew what I was missing. About a year later I now own 3 of them, and still want more... sigh. Before that I viewed guns strictly as tools for self-defense. 1911's got me into shooting/collecting guns as a pastime, something to do for fun, something to obsess over, haha. It's the reason I joined this forum - to spend my spare time reading about this stuff. I still appreciate the simplicity and utilitarian nature of the Glock, but I totally made the switch to being a 1911 guy.Comment

My 1911 never functioned properly. A lot of FTF and stovepipes. It spent a bit of time at the gunsmith and still misbehaved. I sold it soon after with full disclosure to the buyer. I spent about 50 rds with a friends Nighthawk. It was ok. But for what he paid for it, I fail to see how it surpasses a Glock 21 in any category. I now see the 1911 as a hobby gun. Like a hot rod. Sometimes it will function. But in the end they need maintenance and a lot of it.sigpic

Nothing wrong with your 1911. You were limp-wristed

My biggest fear is that one day I will die and my wife will sell my guns for what I told her I paid for them.

Gee, never happened with any other fire arm I owned. Or did it behave for anyone else that used. it. I sense something other than operator error. BTW, Nighthawk functioned well when I used it. Just way expensive for something that does not do anything that a Hi-Point 45 could not do.sigpic

It's so weird how people are EITHER 1911 guys or Glock guys. I have both and appreciate them for what they are.
Almost love my 1911s because they shoot so nicely. If they were closer to 99% reliable I would fully love them. And this sounds weird but my most accurate gun is my TRP, and certainly one of the most fun/accurate 9mms I have is a SA 9mm 1911. Of the 1911s I do own ... the least expensive one, the RIA Tactical is actually the most reliable. I know, I know ... because it's sloppy. Whatever.
However, though I'm no master shooter, I've shot enough matches and classes to really really value reliability. I don't get that from my 1911s or my "souped up" SP-01, but I do get that from my PPQ and Glocks. So I value them for that.
In anycase, why do you have to be one "guy" or the other? Can't you like both? I know guys who own Porsches and Civics in the same garage. They go to work in the Civic and impress their friends on the weekends with the Porsche. Why not both?==================

Remember to dial 1 before 911.

Obviously you've had a bad experience with this type of gun and it's understandable the way you feel, I wouldn't necessarily say it was your 1911 in particular or you. Clearly you've found what you are looking for in a handgun in another type, and that's totally fine. It's no different than the AR guys who preach their rifle is the greatest vs. the AK guys who say the same thing. But at the end of the day a large general consensus can't be totally asinineMy 1911 never functioned properly. A lot of FTF and stovepipes.
