    Now I understand

What all the 1911 hype is about.

I'm not really a handgun guy, the amount of rifles I own far outweighs my handguns. I have a Beretta 92, a Springfield XD40, and my latest addition, a Springfield TRP Operator with the full rail.

Today I went down to the range and took my 1911 for the first time as well as my XD. First off, let me say maybe it's because it's my first 1911, but I just love the way a 1911 feels in your hand. It's not like any other handgun. Secondly, and maybe it's because I didn't buy an entry level 1911(I could be wrong) but the TRP shoots amazing and extremely accurately. I was hitting bullseyes at 25 yards no problem when I was struggling with my XD at 15.

Anyways, just wanted to share my story and say how stoked on my TRP, 1911s are definitely a different breed and am hooked .

Awesome! The best handgun ever designed in my opinion.

        Yup!!!
I can't really say welcome to the club since I don't have any production 1911s, but I do love them.

I knew what the first line in your post was going to be just from the subject.
              Have fun!

I bought a RIA compact tactical for around $500 and it has been flawless. I thought it would take care of my 1911 itch, but I catch myself looking at Kimber, SA, and the like. I have been saving some spare change these last few months. I think I have close to $50. Just a few more months should do it.

I avoided 1911s thinking they were old tech and prone to failure. Then I shot a friends. Then I bought one. And another. I took an armorers course. Then built an 80% (thanks mosin virus). Given the practical 10 round restrictions I now feel the 1911 is the best pistol for guys willing to really learn how they run and who like to tinker. If you want to set it and forget it it's not the way to go. I look at it like a 1911 is a carborated 69 Camaro. A Glock is a 2013 Honda Accord.

Many awesome, beautiful and incredibly made/engineered guns out there... but a 1911?

                      That is something else.

After over a hundred years, trust me they've designed a newer and better stuff. Same as your new car is faster, safer, and more reliable than a Model T made in 1911

Maybe so, but I think most would agree it's a timeless classic that has a unique look and feel
