Additionally, people who like Glocks, like Glocks. People who don't like Glocks, don't like Glocks. If Glock were to make a drastic change to their design, they will not convert any Glock-haters over. But they do risk alienating people who loved them just fine the way they were.

As they say, if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Weber kettle barbecues haven't changed, virtually at all, in over 60 years. Why would they change it if it keeps selling?

I highly doubt that Glock lost the military contract on account of it not looking as modern as the competitors. It was almost certainly a political/financial decision.

Settle down, folks. The new "ghost gun" regulations probably don't do what you think they do.

There will never be one gun that works best for everyone. If there was, there would only be one gun manufacturer because nobody would be wasting money to buy a less than perfect gun.

My first handgun purchase was a Glock. It was name recognition and reputation. I am the type that function is more important than form or looks. It can look fantastic, but if it does not work well, or if it is too expensive or pretty that I do not want it to get scratched or dinged from use, it is of no use to me. It is a tool to be used.

Trying out as a range rental is no good for me. I need to use it for a while to determine if it will really work for me. So I like to buy and use it for awhile. If after a few months it does not work, I sell.

The Glock flat our worked well for me. At the range I did try out the guns of others and they tried mine. For many reasons, the Glock fit my needs and I have several.

I do have a couple of revolvers and a Star B that are fun to play with at the range. For a gun that I can depend on to work when I need it to and to hit what I intend to hit, my Glocks do the job better than any other gun I have come across. The couple of minor things that irritate me I have been able to replace so they no longer irritate me, like replacing the serrated trigger bar with a smooth one.

At the same time I would never criticize someone who prefers 1911s. Everybody is different. I always tell newbies to try out as many different guns as possible to find the one that works best for you. That is the one that you will actually take to the range and shoot on a regular basis.
Anyone can look around and see the damage to the state and country inflicted by bad politicians.

A vote is clearly much more dangerous than a gun.

Why advocate restrictions on one right (voting) without comparable restrictions on another (self defense) (or, why not say 'Be a U.S. citizen' as the requirement for CCW)?

Apples to oranges. New designs come around, some stay and some go. 1911's are still popular 100+ years later, how many changes to that design have been positively recieved?

A gun design that works doesn't need to be reinvented. If a new design comes along that you shoot better, then buy that and shoot it.

the only thing I see that the glock could do is add fill ambidexterity. two mag releases and two slide releases. it already does everything else.

                Just something to think about.
There are plenty of WWI and WWII era 1911 pistols still in use and for sale for premium prices.
How many Gen I Glocks are still in use or for sale ?

From time to time I see them for sale here and on other boards. Of course Gen1 G17's were never produced in mass quantities like the 1911 and 1911A1's.

As for them becoming irrelevant? Why because they didnt win this latest contract? They've been doing just fine without it for over 30 years and I suspect Glock will "survive" this as well.

As far as innovation. The last big innovation to me was Glock successfully winning over the mainstream with an uber simple design that's also uber reliable durable accurate lightweight relatively easy to maintain/repair in the field and it's affordable. It is the total package as a survival tool esp in battle. Its reason for being. Not to stroke the egos of whiny nit picky gun nerds. Travel back in time to 1985. It was a ballsy product to sell when most people's initial reaction was incredibly negative based purely on looks and its polymer frame.

Things like rails or interchangeable back straps are what I'd call options for some and doesn't arise to the same level of game changing handgun innovation. A modular system can be desirable for certain mil/le orgs but I don't see the same appeal to individuals. Individuals can choose what fits and most of all what appeals to them. Glock,SIG,H&K, Beretta,CZ, S&W etc. How lucky we civilians get to choose. A police or military org might want a system that can fit all. I hope the P320 works out and SIG USA delivers good pistols for our troops.

We are not talking style changes in pistols here. We are talking mechanical differences.

You might like Glocks or any of the plastic fantastics, but I am old school and have used 1911 .45 and .38 Super pistols for over two decades.

You might want to educate yourself about 1911 pistols before you decide that the newest plastic crap is the best.

Your call, but I feel bad for you Kalifornikates when it comes to Glocks.

Jim, you missed the point. The 1911 is fine as it is, ive been shooting mine for three decades. My point is that people still buy and shoot 1911s a hundred years after they were initially produced. Therefore they are NOT like cars that get wings and fins and crome etc to go out of style.

Glocks will be around for a long time to come because there are many who can only see perfection if it is around $499 bucks or some wheres south of that.

Point my towards an on-roster 10mm concealed carry handgun that isn't a Glock

Or even off-roster for that matter, why limit ourselves. I'll wait right here.

I can't believe I am defending Glock, but the "logic" in the OP is anything but.

There are many reasons to like or not like Glocks, grip angle, ergonomics, little flimsy trigger "safety," factory sights (which are meant to be replaced), having to pull trigger to field strip, Glock leg, etc., but to complain that they haven't had a face lift in a while is just silly.

Glock is exactly what it is and doesn't pretend to be something else. It's a gun that is suitable for anything from self defense to shooting open class and anything in between.

California is a huge market and we basically have two or three choices when it comes to brands of polymer framed striker fire pistols on the roster, Glock being one of them. Not irrelevant here.
