Looks legit to me. Your lower does not need to be marked "pistol". Just make sure Cal: Multi is included in the engraving.

"Pistol" marked lowers were manufactured for free-state builds before "Other" was added to the 4473 options around 2008 or 2009.
Before that, the FFL effectively "gave life" to the pistol/rifle status at the time of purchase, and since you can not build a pistol from a rifle, the lowers were marked "pistol" to clarify and keep everything unquestionably legal.

Pistol marked lowers never had a legal purpose in California due to the roster, and California DROS lacking an equivalent of the 4473's "Other"

I’ve been following this thread for the last several months as I really want to build an AR pistol before July. There’s so much valuable information in this thread yet I still have a few questions; any insight would be a tremendous help.

Has anyone built any of the Eagle Lite kits? Specifically the side charging version? Is having a side charging upper better for initially building it as a single shot top loading pistol? I have read countless posts and information regarding NOT installing the gas tube initially, and then adding it after the fact so it can run semi once the mag lock is installed.

On a totally different side, has anyone built the ceratac AR kit? Anything I need to be aware of reguarding a normal style charge system?

Aside from building as single shot fixed mag/without gas tube; is there anything else anyone can suggest I need to be aware of for the build process?

Effective Jan 1 2017, the definition of "manufacture" was expanded to include "assembly of parts"

It is now arguably illegal to convert a single shot bolt action to semi-automatic... we won't know for sure until a test case is tried and convicted or acquitted.

Sorry Cokebottle, I know you’ve copied and pasted that at least a dozen other times throughout this thread. I guess I should have been a little more specific; since “arguably” it could go either way, has anyone built a kit recently, did the documentation, and has any suggestions on what they built, how it shoots, and any pros and cons of what they ordered? I’m more looking for building tips and what people like/don’t like while this is still a grey area.

Hey guys, did this get answered before? I tried reading the entire thread...I may have missed. Will it help anything if the word "pistol" is also engraved into the lower? Or will that just give another level of complexity that we don't wanna deal with.

Makes no difference.

It used to be an issue in free states because the 4473 only had entries for "rifle" or "pistol" like the CA DROS software.
Didn't matter in California, because the roster prevented (prevents) a raw frame from being sold as a "pistol"
Stopped mattering in free states when the 4473 was modified around 2008 to add "other"... so all raw frames are transferred as "other" and can be built into either rifles or pistols.

2. What do i put under "frame only"?
3. Wha do I put for firearm color? Right now its raw aluminum silver but I plan to cerakote in he future

Model is whatever you have engraved as your model.
Frame only is "yes" if it is currently a frame and intended to be a rifle build.

For color put what it currently is, there is nothing prohibiting a color change in the future.

Why is that, if pistol was built in 2014 with proper info engraved at the moment it was built, have non-removable magazine, must be Vol Reg?

Smh Im looking at my lower and I just realized the model engraving is missing. Is that really mandatory if im just going to volreg?
I have my name . City/state,sn, caliber markings

If you're making an AR pistol, you probably don't want to put semi-automatic.
