.45! it's easier to see the holes from 15 yards.

Ahh, I forgot I was posting on Calguns.net where all life and death encounters happen at 7 yds (21') and the attacker never moves while you are executing a perfect isosceles stance and slow firing rounds into his / her center of mass.

There could never be a situation where a knife wielding attacker is 7 - 10 ft away, charging you while you are clumsily, from lack of training or simple fear, fumbling for your pistol. Nah, couldn't happen.

In fact I can't imagine a single scenario where you couldn't get off more than one shot at a charging attacker. Nope. Not one.

Thanks. Your post has inspired me to rethink my training exercises, as the scenarios I train for could never happen. Hence, there could never be a scenario where a bigger wound channel could make a difference in a life or death situation. Nope. Never.

P.S. I'm not meaning to single you out from the helpful sods that posted before you. You just provided more substance. Thanks for making me think about this.

Nicely done, but this thread will keep going and going until the end of time.

Pssssshhh, well it wouldn't have to keep going on and on forever if he'd just picked 10mm
Settle down, folks. The new "ghost gun" regulations probably don't do what you think they do.

There is a very simple answer and its 'both'.

45 for when your standing and 9 for when your squatting.
Im a warmonger baby, I got blood in my eyes and I'm looking at you.

I took my 45acp and set it up so that I can switch it to 9mm if the mood strikes me. Now I have the best of both worlds, and can argue either side if I so choose.

I went a similar route, except that I just have 1 pistol that's 9mm and another that's .45 Plus several others in other calibers. Playing the upper swapping game gets kind of old after a while, it usually doesn't take long to realize that you favor one configuration strongly over the other one.

When I bought my Glock 29, I thought it was awesome that I could use my G36 upper on it to make a 10rd .45acp pistol. And it was awesome, the one time I did it, 2 years ago.

Eventually you become invested in this hobby enough that you realize life is just better when you have different guns for different things, so you don't have to swap parts around all the time. But I do realize it's not always easy for a beginner to go out and buy a half dozen different pistols (nor are they likely to know which half dozen they should buy) so I suppose upper swaps are a decent temporary solution. Not saying you're a beginner, just noting that the upper-swap game tends to be done more by beginners than by those who know exactly what they need.

                      I will always carry a 1911 45 but I do have a love for the 40 S&W.

uhmmm.... if you're more accurate than 9mm go with 45. simple.

Actually I did it because I kept reading that it couldn't be done. I knew it could be. So, I built it to prove to myself that it could be done. It primarily stays 45acp, and I keep the 9mm stuff for just in case I can't find 45acp ammo.
I also use it for teaching newbies how to shoot a large automatic.
I did a similar thing with another 45acp I have. It is set up so that I can go to 10mm if I choose to hunt with it. The only difference in the 2 setups is that the 10mm/45acp combat has a heavier mainspring to handle the 10mm.

That's a good reason I've definitely done my fair share of things just to see if it could be done, see my avatar for an example, lol

So if you are an average American, you should be able to personally identify with the .45 ACP rounds. If you are trim and svelte, especially if you are European, you might identify with the 9mm bullets better.

You can see the .45 round coming at you, so you don't even need to be in the Matrix to duck out of the way.
