    9 vs 45...thoughts

I've been shooting 9mm for a while and have considered switching to 45. I tried two similar models in 9 and 45 plus a 9mm I own. Lo and behold, I was dead nuts accurate with the 45. At 7 yds I shoot a 2-3" group with 9 (both eyes open, fairly fast). But, with the 45 I was making one ragged hole with 10 rds.

After doing some reading (again), it seems one of the major benefits of 9mm is the increased mag capacity. But here in CA, that's a moot point. It's 10rds if you're not on the anointed.

I'm fine with the recoil of the 45 although the 9 is lighter, obviously. Ammo price is a consideration but I don't shoot enough to make that the only deciding factor.

    Any other things to consider?

Thanks in advance and sorry for the dead horse beating.

I think it's safe to say this topic has been beaten to death so brace yourself for incoming rounds.

My question is, "why do you have to choose?" You can own both. So own both. Shoot/carry whichever one you feel like that day. Go ahead. The other one won't get jealous. Guns are cool like that. Women? Not so much.

You should consider the much more impressive stopping power of the 9mm over .45.

Unless this is all for CCW, otherwise consider a shotgun.

Yeah but AR or AK? And which is the best to get? And I hear the bullet button is banned, so register or featureless?

What gun were you shooting in 45 and what gun were you shooting in 9mm?

                          ^ Yep.

OP, if you knew you were beating a dead horse, why did you post this?

Anyways... In free states, when it comes to CCW weapons, the debate comes down to weighing the pluses and minuses of bullet size/energy, and magazine capacity and weight. But here in CA, we don't get to use any sweet 20rd 9mm magazines (for much longer), so you might as well just pick the round with the best energy/size and leave capacity out of the equation. Hence the 10mm suggestion. Unless it hurts your girly wrists.

Now, for a range toy, that's a different story. It comes down to personal preference obviously, but for myself, I prefer soft shooting 9mm or high-energy 10mm, and I'm not a big fan of any of the 'tweener rounds. Either enjoy the massive rrecoil, or enjoy the soft-shooting accuracy, I don't see much point in shooting something that does each of those half as well. But that's just me.

Settle down, folks. The new "ghost gun" regulations probably don't do what you think they do.

9mm projectiles are sleek and svelte. .45 ACP projectiles are kind of tubby and overweight looking. Since we're all Americans, we are mostly fat. So if you are an average American, you should be able to personally identify with the .45 ACP rounds. If you are trim and svelte, especially if you are European, you might identify with the 9mm bullets better.
