I own a Kimber SS Target II in 9mm. Great gun and I have not had any issues with the steel barrel. The fit and finish is real nice. Tha SA Loaded and RO had some sharp edges and the action didn't seem as smooth. The plastic MSH is a non issue for me since it doesn't effect the function or handling of the gun. My wife took the Kimber for herself since I've got a Les Baer SRP. When someone asks my opinion on a good 1911, I recommend a Kimber TLE II. It's got alot of features for about $1000 and if the plastic MSH bothers you, just get a S&A one piece MSH/magwell.

The "TACTICAL" is much easier for me to ignore than the rust, mangled grip screw busings, inability to use their own mag or others reliability, and horrible customer service.

Springfield of course as it does not have a
swartz safety firing pin disconnect that the Kimber has which can fail and the gun just goes CLICK Instead of Bang... Seen it first hand..
Kimber makes a beautiful looking and feeling gun.. when they work they are wonderful.. The swartz safety indicated by a II after any of the brand names.. Like ULTRA II or PRO CARRY II...Eclipse Target II
is activated by the grip safety. Colts 80 series is activated by the trigger...
Get a Kimber without the II or a Colt 70 series or a Springfield or Rock Island and you will be better off.
                Just my opinion.
