I think the big difference between the custom 2 TLE/RL and the MC operator is the front strap checkering on the TLE and the color on the MC operator. I have the TLE (no rail) and it is a great gun. My dad has a springfield range officer and, while also nice, I prefer the TLE's front strap checkering. Springfield customer service is great. My expierence with them was great. I called kimber customer service once and was told it was a break in issue. I bought some better mags and that seems to have solved the issue.

Kimber VS Springfield

Thanks, and as we say in Spanish,

Kimbers look nice in fact I personally think they make some of the best looking handguns. At work we have found they rust much more than other guns in fact many come from the factory with small amounts of rust on their barrel. Kimber doesn't use stainless steel for their barrel steel or at least of the same grade as other makers. I love springfield and I think they make the best off the shelf 1911 within the typical 1911 price range. Springfield Loaded and TRP series are my favorites.Last edited by BlackonBlack; 02-21-2016, 11:27 PM.Good decisions come from experience. Experience comes from poor decisions.Comment

My first gun was a Kimber Custom II that I bought brand new for about $815. My second 1911 was the Springfield Armory Full Rail TRP that I bought brand new for about $1,875.
I like them both but what I really really want is the Springfield TRP w/out a rail to use in USPSA. Personally, what I need in a 1911 is a checkered front strap, steel mainspring housing, a magwell, extended thumb safety, memory bump in the grip safety, and front slide serrations. With all those features, I can run a 1911 the way I want to.
2 things I did not like about my Kimber Custom II was the plastic mainspring housing and the blacked out sights and they only gave me one 7 round magazine. With SPringfield, they give you a frikin suitcase with 2 mags, a double mag pouch, a holster, and extra grips!Comment

Springfield Armory, because they are Series 70, and never had any issues with my TRP.Comment

I love my TLE/RL but I agree with the MSH complaint. A $1100+ pistol shouldn't come with a plastic MSH.2 things I did not like about my Kimber Custom II was the plastic mainspring housing and the blacked out sights and they only gave me one 7 round magazine. FWIW, I replaced mine this weekend.Originally posted by fighterpilot562Damn it man! We could have got drunk, called a taxi and drop by Kest house with a mega phone.Comment

You're right. They don't cost the same.
I'm going with the SA for sure. Going to go this weekend.
Not a "TRP" and not a "Custom II".

I've shot quite a few 1911s from a friends collection. The ones that consistently had issues were Kimbers and Paras. I'm sure many have never had issues out of theirs but it's always left a bad rep in my mind. I went with a Springfield loaded and have never had an issue.Originally posted by ar15barrelsSo you are throwing out 95% of reality to select the 5% of reality where you are actually right?

Don't have much experience shooting a Kimber, but I have seen them come brand new from the factory with rust on the frame and barrel. I have heard it's because of a lesser quality metal to save costs. Might want to research that.
I have a TRP Operator FR I earned from selling SA. It's a shooter, boy. Hell, even my wife loves to shoot it, which is scary, but she's 4 foot nothing and she handles it just fine for a lady. That being said, we haven't put the requisite 250-300 rounds through it for the full break in. I like it a lot, though, and would recommend it to anyone considering it.
The only other 1911 that I would recommend, and one that I drool over is the Les Baer Thunder Ranch. Such a fine shooting pistol. Felt like it shot better than my P226. Couldn't believe how well it shot. DM me for any questions on it.
Last, I have a survey going in the General Discussion section that I really need folks to do, so if you have the time, head over there and take it, please. Only takes a minute and I'll post the results once I get enough participation. Thanks!Comment
