I'm not really sure why one would want to spend $1000 for a gun to " throw in my truck when fourwheeling and know that it will survive the abuse and be ready for me to grab when I need it. "

For that purpose, may I suggest a more prudent way to spend your $$ and get a SIG P2022 for $400 (if you really want Sig. There is no HK in that price range).

Maybe if you so inclined, you can take whatever you saved there and apply it towards an HK or Sig P220, 226 (or comparable level) for higher purposes such as Daily Carry, HD or even just to appreciate at the range once in a while (as opposed to throw around/abuse).

It's your money. Anyway, good luck.

I owned a HK94 in the 80s. It did absolutely nothing better than my CMMG 9mm carbine does today. Except cost a lot more.

Factor in the insane cost of HK mags, availability of 10 rd mags here in California (HK hates the civilian market) and that plays into it highly.

Glad you like you your HK. I would save on the extra cost and spend it on ammo and training. Far better investments IMHO.

Perhaps its time to try an actual modern HK Pistol before offering your opinion, as opposed to the 50 year old carbine that you owned 30 years ago. Just a thought.

If the gun were strictly for the range and home defense, I would say it's a draw because I'd have a hard time choosing between a P226 and USP 9. Since you said it's for ccw, I would definitely go with a HK because of the weight difference.

I'll take the newest BMW with comfortable lumbar and heated seats, climate controls, GPS and USB connections over the rusty Toyota in rush hour traffic (or any traffic for that matter).

I also doubt that they drive the same.

Not to mention that after a period of time with funds spent on training and ammo the $200-$400 is irrelevant.

Yeah. There are no car analogies that can be drawn between a glock and a sig or a glock and an HK.

The price difference is meaningless really, get the one you like to shoot.

I prefer Glock over any other semi auto pistol. However if the opportunity to acquire an HK P7 arose, I would be all over it on a second. Those are amazing and so unique.

My requirements are indestructible, 9mm double stack, and preferably metal frame. With around 1k to spend I have my choices narrowed down to a Sig or HK but from what I ve read they are similar when it comes to what I want. Thoughts?
If the intended purpose is to be a backup or when you need it gun, and it may be left unused, stored and possibly neglected, why spend $1k? Get a Glock, save the dough and rest assured it will be ready for you when you need it.

Hey for all we know the OP has WC 1911's stashed in every room for HD, and carries HK P7's for CCW. A $1000 USP maybe isn't that crazy for a throw around and neglect gun.

I'm just poking fun, but in all seriousness: P2000 can be had for $650 shipped brand new. And while still more expensive than a Glock, I think people over exaggerate the price difference. HK's are designed as hard use guns that can take a way harder beating than just getting thrown into the trunk.

I'm not directing this comment at anyone here, but I always see people putting HK on some sort of "pedestal" like it's meant to be kept pristine and I unscratched.

If you do get a sig, get a used one made in w. germany.

Please update/fix OP to reflect a comparison between guns that fit your criteria (ie CZ vs Sig, or something like that). HK does not make a metal frame, so "Im leaning towards a metal frame" = Sig vs HK = Fail. Either that, or you have already answered your own question and the answer is Sig.

Technically the SIG isn't metal framed either, unless you went with the full stainless model.

                                good point, will do

Edit: I ve realized that HK isnt really in my search criteria, and am set on a metal frame but not completely sold on Sig. Is CZ even in the same league as Sig? are there any other metal frame guns that are?
