Practically speaking, none of those benefits matter for civil consumption. Its actually a detriment in a way-if a private citizen uses a gun for self defense, he's looking at over $1000+ to replace it once the original HK is seized for evidence. Glocks work, and are expendable enough that if its seized and scrapped no worries are spared.Just buy another one and keep rolling.

Sig vs CZ or similar metal frame gun

Simple fact... part for part, material for material.. HK is a higher quality piece than the Glock, and yes you pay more for that. Accuracy is a null point, both are accurate, but for whatever reason certain people are able to shoot one better than the other. Is the frame of a HK superior to the Glock... hell yes. Are the barrels of the HK's one notch above the Glock... hell yes. Are the parts inside the frame of an HK a notch above s Glock.... hell yes.
I have seen some Glock torture tests that were to say the least......impressive. HK is a brand name like Gucci, Prada and Mercedes. It offers no real value over the brands such as MP series, Glock and CZ. It is just a way to say, "I have a lot of money" when at the gun range.
I owned a HK94 in the 80s. It did absolutely nothing better than my CMMG 9mm carbine does today. Except cost a lot more.
Factor in the insane cost of HK mags, availability of 10 rd mags here in California (HK hates the civilian market) and that plays into it highly.
Glad you like you your HK. I would save on the extra cost and spend it on ammo and training. Far better investments IMHO.sigpic

I agree FOR THE MONEY. Can't dispute that. Now we are back to the argument, why should anyone buy a Lexus when they can buy a Camry. Some people work hard enough in life to enjoy a larger disposable income, and gain pleasure out of purchasing higher quality products. However, in the case of handguns we are talking $200-$400 more, not $12,000-$20,000 more.Last edited by missiontrails; 03-15-2015, 2:27 PM.Comment

Sig vs HK
I thought this thread is about HK vs Sig. How did we get Glock and CZ into the conversation. Should we throw in Hi-Point as a citizen self defense weapon just in case we have to use it and the gun is going to be taken away for investigation. Hi-Point is a lot cheaper than Glock and it is still get the job done.Last edited by tbc; 03-15-2015, 2:36 PM.Comment

Not necessarily. A lot of millionaires drive used cars because for their purposes, there's no reason to buy a 'premium brand'. The newest BMW drives the same as a rusty Toyota in rush hour traffic.Comment

fine... if he/you guys dont like the cz, get a sig.. why not get an elite why your at it. if ya wanna pay mind as well get all the bells and whistles. Hk-idk about you but thats an expensive piece of plastic to me and the usp I shot wasn't anything spectacular, p226 or p220 with SRT gets my voteComment

You missed my point.. I didn't say that just because you earn more, you WILL buy higher priced stuff... I said that "some" people gain pleasure out of purchasing and owning higher quality products. Honestly, if Glock grips were more ergonomic and IF they knew how to mold a frame out of better quality materials so that accessories like lights and lasers didn't point at an upward angle... I would own a 21 and 17 again. Same reason I won't buy a M&P, because the accessories point at a downward angle because of that companies poor polymer molding skills. If you buy a HK, you get HARDER polymer that is molded straight every time. Anyone care to dispute those facts??Last edited by missiontrails; 03-15-2015, 2:51 PM.Comment

So I am getting ready to make my next handgun purchase. I am already set with a ccw and home defense pistol. For my next purchase I am looking for a gun that I can throw in my truck when fourwheeling and know that it will survive the abuse and be ready for me to grab when I need it. My requirements are indestructible, 9mm double stack, and preferably metal frame. With around 1k to spend I have my choices narrowed down to a Sig or HK but from what I ve read they are similar when it comes to what I want. Thoughts?Last edited by riderr; 03-15-2015, 3:03 PM.Comment

Why not? I own more HKs than Glocks, it just wound up that way for me, but Glocks are just as good as both sigs and hks. If they weren't, police forces wouldn't be using them as much as they do. They are affordable and reliable. Of Sig and HK, I would choose HK though. I have only one Sig now, a P229 non ca. They just overdid it with that stupid LCI and mag disconnect. Most of the original model sigs were on the roster and sig let them fall off and remade the new CA versions. It's almost as though they tried to bend over backward to be in compliance with California, and look what it got them...nothing. CA still is working towards banning all new handguns.Comment

Make no mistake. Police (as any other government body) runs on budget. So, the don't pick the best gun in the world. They rather pick the best (or the most hyped) gun in the price range. Considering Glock's buyback program for LE, it runs really cheap for the police.Last edited by riderr; 03-15-2015, 3:13 PM.Comment

I have had both HK (USP compact in 40) and Sig P229 (40) and P238. Both are great guns, but if I had to choose one, it would be the P229. Obviously this is biased by my shooting preference, but the P229 is one of my favorite guns I have ever shot. Honestly I would try them all out and see which you like best.Comment
