Sounds like the encounter went peacefully without stress.
    I'm glad everyone was levelheaded.
Absolutely! But, let's remember that common sense and common courtesy go a long ways!

He asks me where the firearm was and I told him at appendix. He says ok, gives back the CCW license then goes back to his bike to print out my ticket.

This is my second time getting pulled over while carrying. This is all you need to do. Also, don't be putting your hands near the firearm. Don't worry and don't stress. You'll be good and you might even be let off with just a warning which happened to me on my first encounter.

This is what NOT to do when being pulled over. Who was the CCW instructor who told you to reach for anything without being told to do so? You're really lucky you didn't end up with a gun pointed at you or worse. Next time, either have the docs in hand prior to the officer approaching or wait for him/her to tell you what to do after you inform him/her that you have a firearm/LTC.

If you are in OC I was told when I renewed recently they want to be notified even on traffic tickets now FYI..

Exactly what I thought when reading this also.

A somewhat humorous but to the point how-to from Mike the Cop.

Correct, I was told to notify the department (I'm in OC) anytime I have contact with law enforcement, whether I am carrying or not. That was a change from the previous policy. I wonder if they are collecting data????

You just told him you are armed from the permit, he doesnt know where the firearm is. The order you told it, you reached somewhere before he know where the gun was.

                Not huge, unless something happens.
It's been some time since I was pulled over but as I recall it happening, there was always plenty of time to have that stuff ready and my hands on 10 and 2 with the dome light on before the officer even got out of his car. License, registration, proof of insurance.

It's not like they ask for random stuff every time as a test.

"OK, show me your, ah, pocket change and medical insurance documents" said no traffic stop ever.

Yes, and as long as you have a veteran officer who is low-key and mellow, you'll certainly be fine. But what if you have some nervous rookie who, as he is walking up to your vehicle, sees you through the rear window leaning over and sticking your hands into the glovebox?

Go ahead, but I'm waiting for direction to do so before doing it.

I don't keep my docs in the glove box, and I keep an eye on the rearview. It literally takes me about 10 seconds to have everything in order and be waiting.

While I agree that its highly unlikely (and clearly enough folks have gotten these tickets and it's had no impact), the fact that it was legal a few years ago is completely immaterial. When I was young, drinking and driving was perfectly legal in many places, not a big deal back then. Then some states started making an issue about it, then the feds got involved and made everyone comply. Driving while drinking now is whole world of hurt, but it was not always so.

If you don't expect the same thing to happen with cell phone use while driving, you are kidding yourself, especially in this state.

While it's obvious that you shouldn't have been on the phone, what's more disturbing to me is that you didn't see the officer. That's a situational awareness fault in my book.

Just wait until they ask for docs. About 75% of the cars I stopped, I never asked for registration and/or insurance. If I was not working traffic, there was usually no need to get that far.

I prefer to get my rummaging around finished before a nervous armed person is standing at my driver side window.

Does your IA require you to inform when you're carrying?
