2.) Since I'm a California Resident, technically, do I have to wait until I have something like a PG&E bill, or will my proof of service (ERB) (which lists a Bakersfield address) suffice?

3.) Unrelated. Anybody interested in joining the Army?
Thank you for your service -- Dave Adams is in the Army Reserves and will understand your situation. If you have time, please drop by his booth on July 9, 2016, in Vacaville. He'll be happy to chat with you

If I'm going to submit my renewal packet 4-6 weeks before the expiration of my current CCW permit, how far in advance can I get the weapon inspection/range qualification done?

My permit expires in mid-September and I know I have to make appointment for the weapon qualification with the certified trainer. So I didn't know how far in advance I can schedule the qualification.

I'm still a PA resident on paper (PA Drivers License, etc) but I'm retired military now and I've been searching online and called my LGS and can't get a solid answer. Do I need to become a CA resident now I'm not active duty to obtain my CCW?
        Thanks
        According to CA DMV:
        "Discharged Military Personnel

Any person entering California following discharge from the armed forces of the United States is exempted from registration of passenger vehicles and trailer coaches provided the vehicles have out-of-state plates and registration.

Registration becomes due when you accept gainful employment in California or become a California resident (as defined in Section 516 of the Vehicle Code) and must be paid within 20 days following that date to avoid penalties."

You're a resident if you rent or own in CA for six months.

          SFShep,

With a renewl you submit your weapons requalification and do your class prior to submitting the application. Go take the class, fill out your app and then make the appointment. On my last renewel i turned in everything 3 weeks prior to make ccw expiring and it was all done with time to spare.

SFSHep, I'd schedule your re-qual for the beginning of August. Once you complete the training, contact Kellie to make your appointment to drop everything off. You should get an appointment in the first couple weeks of August and give them time to review and sign your new permit and schedule a pickup before your expiration.

I have a feeling they give priority to renewals since we should be easier to process but the more time you give them the better it is for everyone, including new applicants, given the summer is probably a popular time for staff to take vacations.

To my knowledge nothing has change. I have renewed several times. You do need a good cause statement ... personal protection alone will not likely work. Many of us run small businesses, carry or collect cash, have to be out late, are in risky situations due to our vocation, etc. The Sheriff and or his Deputies will do a backround check, crazy stuff in you history will not fly, no DUI, no violent crimes, no history of continued stupid stuff (we all have something, but hopefully maturity has prevailed), pretty much if you are good citizen with clean record you should have no problem. Good luck and would love to have another good guy armed.

Does anyone know how long the Livescan/Background check normally takes? I know they said about 3 months but how long after that 3 month mark should I call to inquire as to the status?

Is that business days only or does that include counting weekends, and how long ago was this?

I know they were getting a pretty heavy load when I did mine.

                      Thanks for the info

I am at about 109 days then since Livescan. And if you don't mind when did you have initial appointment and then date of Livescan?

                          Thanks again for answering

I am at 121 days since the livescan. In defense of the SO while I was waiting for the livescan 7 other folks were in process at the same time. I asked the tech if that was normal and the reply was every day is like this one. Be sure and thank them for their service when your there.

Thanks for that info just wanted to see if this was normal since they told me 3 months normally. I know they are busy as when I applied and then again when I went for Livescan they were bringing appointment people in one after another.

So by your number you are close to my time frame with everything. You must have had your Livescan around middle of March.
