Just picked up my renewal today. The nice lady working the desk said they should have more people working the permit process, but for next time, try and apply 4-5 months prior to expiration.

Just a "heads up" in SJ county, I called today for a renewal appointment and got a date towards the end of August. Little more than a month out.

Any favorites for Initial CCW course? Got my approval and located in Tracy.

Was looking at NFI and Valley Defense.

Really want to avoid taking a day off work since VD is FRI/SAT, but if its that much better...

I went through valley defense and Vince was amazing. I highly recommend his course! I was sent to him by a family that is in law enforcement. Was very pleased and the range day is a awesome private range that is from the holster all day long.

Duncan Ramirez at FIRST RESPONSE, tactial firearms and training. My wife and I used him as he was highly recommended by everyone who carries at my work. I can't recommend him enough. Classes are Saturday and Sunday for the initial and we will be going back to do "refresher trainings" for the low low price of the LGR range free for a 4 hour sit each month. Seriously, give him a look and call him.

If you dont want to leave Tracy, I think Silvercreek Security Academy is still doing them. That's who I used for my Initial and subsequent renewal.

Thank you all for the recommendations. Its interesting comparing them all and some charging extra fees for more than 1 handgun qualification.

Question for those of you who list more than 1 firearm:
Do you need to bring a holster for each one or are you going through the training with what you consider your primary and your other two are only brought out at the end for qualifications?

Anyone know the current lead times for interviews? Also how smooth the process is with SJ? Just moved here and starting the process. Any tips would be appreciated.

They are really slow on renewals. I re-applied earlier than when they said to, and my permit expired, and the application is still "pending".

I thought the new sheriff was going to speed up the CCW process, not slow it down. Renewals as far as I know were not an issue under sheriff Moore. They were pretty quick. My last renewal was a 2 week process.

I hope they fix this quick. I think it's unacceptable to file early and then end up with an expired permit because of their inefficiencies.

Good luck, hope you get the call today. Make sure they are aware that they've allowed your permit to expire.
