That's what I was thinking. I guess he thinks people are just going to hang around their neighborhood.
I'd like to contact somebody who's recently submitted and/or got approved for their CCW from Manteca.

Did you happen to see my file on his desk? Lol. You had the opportunity to present yourself and to answer any questions directly. I think that's a good thing.

You can apply at either office, but if what you say is true about the Manteca PD relaxing the 'good cause' requirement, I will apply in Manteca PD since the backlog there might be a lot shorter than San Joaquin County Sheriff, which is now looking at around 9 months.

I'm asking because I remember seeing in the paper that Manteca's police chief was going to follow the ruling on the "good cause" requirement. And that's where I got confused. I thought it was up to the county's sheriff? I just want to get familiar with the process.

That's why I'm contemplating whether or not I want to take my application to MPD or SJSO.

I don't know of anyone applying to Manteca yet, but I have a buddy who is heading in there because he has moved there from Stanislaus County.

I will update as soon as I hear anything from him.

Interesting. My apologies to MWD_Kelly_A187 who suggested the Manteca PD and may have been correct in doing so.

With that said, we need a test case. I do not recall seeing any member here successfully achieve a CCW through Manteca PD. With that said, I don't don't know if anyone has tried since the linked article was written.

Welcome to Cal Guns! I know you are trying to be helpful but you are giving bad advise here. The only PD department that is known to issue CCW's within San Joaquin County is Rippon PD. If you are not a resident of Ripon, you should apply with the San Joaquin Sheriff's office. Applying at any other PD besides Ripon is a total waste of time.

    Hi All,

Got a call from the investigator today around 10am--as many others have mentioned, he just needed a copy of my employers firearm policy and then my file would be on its way for the sheriff to sign off on. Time to schedule a CCW training course!

    Interview date: May 28th @ 9:45am

    For what it's worth:
    - I called SJSO around October/early November to check on the status of things. Aside from that, today's phone call was the first contact from their side.
    - 2 speeding tickets, other than that...clean record. M/29
    - The phone call was NOT a blocked number.
    - 2 of my 3 firearms are SSE.

Patience is truly a virtue in this process. It was definitely helpful to check this thread every few weeks to see progress for other people. In fact, I highly suggest doing that instead of wasting your time trying to call SJSO to get an update.

Emailed the investigator and he responded back quickly that "We are just starting the May apps now. I will pull yours and your husbands and start working on them." That is progress. Hopefully not too much longer. We interviewed on May 30th 2014.

Had a friend interview this week for a new applicant CCW. The Sheriffs Dept now is telling applicants 6 to 8 months before they will hear back.
